Shadow Blade is a level 2 illusion spell. Create a Shadow Blade in your main hand that deals Psychic damage.

Description

Weave a shadowy shortsword in your hand that deals 2d8Psychic damage.

When you use the sword to attack a target that is in dim light or darkness, you make the Attack Roll with Advantage. The shadow blade can be unequipped and equipped again, but must remain on the spellcaster's person.

• Upcasting: When you cast this spell using a 3rd or 4th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 3d8Psychic.
• Upcasting: When you cast this spell using a 5th or 6th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 4d8Psychic.

How to learn

Classes:

• Class level 3: Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard
• Class level 7: Arcane Trickster
• Class level 8: Eldritch Knight

Granted by items:

• Shadow Blade Ring ( Recharge: Short rest)

Notes

• As of the Patch 8 stress test, Shadow Blade is now a standard spell.
• The caster will have innate proficiency with the summoned weapon so wizards and sorcerers who lack Shortsword proficiency will still be able to use it to its fullest potential.
