Notes
- Removing a Whispering Mask from an unconscious hag victim kills them if the hag is still alive.
- While Auntie Ethel is alive, the wearer of this mask must make a Wisdom Saving Throw every turn. If failed, they become a Hag's Pawn (controlled by Auntie Ethel) and attack the party; if all party members equip the masks and become Hag's Pawns, a Game Over screen appears. If all unaffected party members run away from combat (e.g., back to the Tea House), leaving no one to attack, the remaining mask-affected party member can unequip the mask after making a Wisdom saving throw.
- The negative effects of this mask can be prevented by casting Protection from Evil and Good before equipping it. In this case, the poison gas clouds in Ethel's lair temporarily dissipate for the wearer, and the thralls wearing these masks (e.g. Mask of Vengeance) will not attack the wearer.
- While in this protected state, the wearer still rolls saving throws against Ephemeral Whispers, but failing them has no effect.
- If Auntie Ethel is dead, the mask can be worn with no ill effects.
- If equipped by a Paladin when inside the tunnel, a dialogue with Ethel starts where a DC 15 Charisma Check is needed to prevent succumbing to the mask. Succeeding grants the Voice of Reason condition.
- Succumbing to Auntie Ethel's will due to wearing a Whispering Mask is an oathbreaking action for Paladins of Devotion, Paladins of the Ancients and Paladins of Vengeance.
