Shovel is a unique quasit and summonable familiar that can be summoned via the Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit spell. Unlike regular quasits, Shovel has unique dialogue, and can be interacted with after summoning her.[note 1][url 1]

Her name can be changed to Fork or Basket through dialogue.

Shovel is bored! Shovel wants to murderise!
Shovel

Overview

Shovel is a carefree and upbeat fiend that finds joy in murder, arson and eating babies. She is impatient, and very easily gets bored. In spite of her irreverent demeanour, Shovel can be deeply loyal, even when denied the many pleasures of violence.

Summoning Shovel

There are two ways of summoning Shovel:

  • Temporarily via the Scroll of Summon Quasit found in the Apothecary's Cellar.
    • The scroll can also be scribed by wizards, allowing them to permanently acquire the spell and cast it once per short rest.
  • Permanently via a missable dialogue, unlocking an action to summon her, located in the Common tab. This spell is not lost on resetting the caster's levels through Withers.

Permanently acquiring Shovel

Warlocks and wizards, as well as sorcerers with the Draconic Bloodline subclass, can gain the spell permanently by talking to Shovel after using the scroll to summon her in the Apothecary's Cellar.[note 2] During the conversation, the player must first inquire on why her name is Shovel, and then react with "Shovel is fine". Afterwards the answer given to her, when she's making plan to murder and rob, should be similar.

The caster must then get past the Ornate Mirror in the same location, and must then immediately talk to Shovel. When done correctly, she will then tell her new master that they can call her when "the fisting starts". This does not work if you are disguised.

Other characters who meet the requirements may also speak to shovel to learn the spell, potentially allowing for multiple Shovels at once.

If the caster proceeds too far into the room on the other side of the mirror,[Needs Verification] Shovel will instead initiate a dialogue about trust, bypassing the point at which the spell can be permanently unlocked. If this happens, there is no way to permanently acquire Shovel as a familiar.

History

Shovel was owned by the necromancer Ilyn Toth, who was a cruel and neglectful master. He would often verbally and physically abuse her, and often forgot to feed her. In spite of this, Shovel enjoyed working with her former master.[act1 a]

Attacks and abilities

Similar to other Find Familiar summons, Shovel excels at providing chip damage and harassment in battle. Defensively, her fragile body is at best a distraction against most enemies. Her Invisibility skill is particularly useful for scouting out enemy positions and initiating fights via Surprise attacks.

Unlike ordinarily summoned quasits, Shovel has her own unique lines when using her actions.

Footnotes

  1. Shovel is referred to as she in the description of the Steam achievement Rude, Crude, and Full of Attitude: Find and summon the quasit Shovel. Or is her name... Fork? Maybe Basket?
  2. That only sorcerers with the Draconic Bloodline subclass can acquire Shovel this way may be unintended behaviour, since there is no apparent reason for this behavior.
