Improvised Melee Weapon is a common Action that allows the user to improvise an attack by picking up an item or creature off the ground or from their inventory.

Description

Pick up an item or creature and use it to make a melee attack.

Your Strength affects how much weight you can lift. Heavier items deal more damage.

Range for picking up objects from the ground is AoE: 1 m / 3 ft (Radius)

  • Damage:
    • For weapons with the Thrown Thrown property, the damage roll and damage type is the same as the weapon's melee damage
    • For other objects and creatures, damage is determined by the targets weight[note 1] of the object being thrown:
      • Light objects: under  Weight: 10 kg / 20 lb:
        1d4Damage TypesBludgeoning damage.
      • Medium objects:  Weight: 10 kg / 20 lb - 50 kg / 100 lb:
        2d4Damage TypesBludgeoning damage.
      • Heavy objects: over  Weight: 50 kg / 100 lb:

  • A creature can pick up items and other creatures weighing up to  kg[1]. For example, with a Strength score of 18, the weight limit for Improvised Weapon is  Weight: 64.8 kg / 129.6 lb.
    • It requires a Strength of at least 20 to pick up a normal humanoid ( Weight: 75 kg / 150 lb).
  • Triggers Extra Attack Extra Attack.
  • Can be done as a free attack after triggering Extra Attack Extra Attack.
  • Berserker Berserker can do this as a bonus action via Improvised Melee Weapon (Bonus Action) Improvised Melee Weapon (Bonus Action).
  • Improvised Melee Weapon counts as a melee unarmed attack.
