* Clarification: The in-game description says it grants 'Disadvantage on an Ability of your choosing', but it only applies to Checks, not all rolls utilising that Ability: the target still rolls normally on Saving Throws and Attack rolls.
* In Early Access Patch 9, there was a bugged interaction between '''Hex''' and the [[Eldritch Invocation]] {{SAI|Agonising Blast}}, which caused '''Agonising Blast''' bonus damage to be applied an extra time for each instance of '''Hex''' damage.
** In the case of a level 5 Warlock with two Eldritch Blast beams, this means Agonising Blast damage would be applied a total of '''4 times''', if both beams hit: once for each beam, and once for each instance of Hex damage.
* Hex has two incantations: '''Te Exsecro''', Latin for "I curse you", and '''Maledictus''', Latin for "speak ill of/abuse".

Notes

  • Disadvantage on an Ability of your choosing only applies to Checks, not all rolls utilising that Ability: the target still rolls normally on Saving Throws and Attack Rolls.
  • If the target dies or is knocked out before spell's duration ends, gain Reapply Hex Reapply Hex. While in this state, a glowing shattered crystal appears above the caster's head.
  • Hex damage is applied multiple times for multiple successful Attack rolls. Example scenarios:
    • A Warlock hits the target with a melee or ranged weapon attack: additional 1d6Damage TypesNecrotic.
    • A Level 1 Warlock casts Eldritch Blast Eldritch Blast and hits the target: additional 1d6Damage TypesNecrotic.
    • A Level 5 Warlock casts Eldritch Blast Eldritch Blast and hits the target with both rays: additional 2d6Damage TypesNecrotic, for hitting twice.
    • A Level 3 Warlock casts Scorching Ray Scorching Ray and hits the target with all three rays: additional 3d6Damage TypesNecrotic, for hitting three times.
    • A Level 5 Warlock casts Scorching Ray Scorching Ray and hits the target with all four rays: additional 4d6Damage TypesNecrotic, for hitting four times.
  • Hex is only triggered by hitting the target with a successful Attack Roll, and not by other sources of damage. Example scenarios:
    • A Warlock casts Magic Missile Magic Missile (which does not require an Attack Roll): no additional damage from Hex.
    • A Warlock casts Fireball Fireball (which is a Saving Throw, not an Attack Roll): no additional damage from Hex.
  • Unlike the tabletop version, this spell lasts until the caster's concentration is broken.
  • Hex grants six variants to the caster as indicated above:
These variants are "granted" spells or ones that can be recast. Granted spells are issued to the caster after casting the original, and can be cast again without spending another spell slot as long as Concentration Concentration is not broken. Granted spells such as these are not directly tied to the casters' repertoire of known spells (i.e., their spellbook icon in the game). Therefore, if a granted spell is cast when multiclassing, subsequent recasts (in this case, for example, Hex (Constitution) Hex (Constitution)) use the spellcasting modifier of the most recently acquired spellcasting class rather than the spellcasting modifier that was used for the initial casting of Hex. In this case, it may result in an unexpectedly low spell save DC.
  • In Early Access Patch 9, there was a bugged interaction between Hex and the Eldritch Invocation Agonising Blast Agonising Blast, which caused Agonising Blast bonus damage to be applied an extra time for each instance of Hex damage.
  • Hex has two incantations: Te Exsecro, Latin for "I curse you", and Maledictus, Latin for "speak ill of / abuse".

Bugs

  • If a creature has Hex applied, and lands a Critical Hit against the caster that triggers any "on hit / damage" abilities to damage the hexed creature, the damage of Hex Hex is doubled along with the regular damage of the crit.
    • For example, a Goblin Warlock casts Armour of Agathys Armour of Agathys on themselves, and then Hex Hex on Lae'zel. Lae'zel then lands a Critical Hit on the Goblin Warlock, taking 5Damage TypesCold damage from Armour of Agathys Armour of Agathys in the process. This triggers Hex Hex to deal an additional 1d6Damage TypesNecrotic to Lae'zel, which is then erroneously doubled to 2d6Damage TypesNecrotic due to the Critical Hit.
