A Trapped Beacon on the side of the gallery in Grymforge

A Trapped Beacon is a unique type of Trap that might be encountered in the Grymforge in Act One of the game.

A Trapped Beacon is a defensive mechanism of clearly Sharran design, resembling a giant vertical ring chiselled of stone, with a brazier inside. There are five beacons standing in the plain sight on each side of the narrow gallery in Grymforge, that can be reached only after successfully resolving the Get Past the Rubble Get Past the Rubble: four in pairs across one another, the "pair" for the last one is destroyed.

The whole gallery is thickly trapped with Marble Plates, both rectangular and round ones (these are planted between the Beacons), all working as a joint system. Triggering any of plates turns the whole gallery into a veritable obstacle course, as Trapped Beacons work in a certain accordant rhythm with Gargoyle Statues at the both ends of the gallery.

Upon triggering any of traps here a Turn-based mode is started automatically. Once in two turns each Trapped Beacon projects a jet of flame that reaches the opposite side of the gallery, dealing 2d6FireFire damage to any targets in its way. The paired Trapped Beacons produce the flame jets simultaneously, which allows the party to cross their "firing line" the next turn, when they take pause. The Gargoyle Statues, however, activate each turn, and unlike Beacons, their flame jets protrude for 15 meters and might make the target fall Prone Prone along with taking the damage.

Each Trapped Beacon must be detected as a trap and disarmed individually, but botching the Disarm Trap roll on any of them sets off the whole system of traps on the gallery.

However, passing the gallery to its end and getting behind the iron gate is worth doing, as it allows to obtain two notable items:

A Trapped Beacon can be disarmed with the help of Sleight of Hand Sleight of Hand skill, but the character must have a Trap Disarm Toolkit in their inventory. Difficulty Class requirement is a DC 15 Sleight of Hand check roll.

After successful disarming, the very ring of a Trapped Beacon is depicted as crumbling into a stone rubble down from the gallery.
