Soul-Sworn Contract

The Soul-Sworn Contract is a document created when the player character accepts Raphael'sRaphael's deal.

Overview[edit | edit source]

In return for signing the contract, Raphael gives the party the  Orphic Hammer required to free OrpheusOrpheus. In exchange, the party must deliver the Crown of KarsusCrown of Karsus to Raphael after having defeated the Netherbrain.

Raphael first attempts to make this deal in Sharess' Caress as part of Deal with the DevilDeal with the Devil. If refusing the deal, never fighting against Raphael, and then refusing to cooperate with the The EmperorThe Emperor during Confront the Elder BrainConfront the Elder Brain, Raphael appears again and forces the party to sign the contract to obtain the Orphic Hammer. Refusing the deal at this point leads to a Game Over screen.

Escape the Deal[edit | edit source]

Should the party want to renege on their word, they must find a way to enter Raphael's abode and destroy the contract. The contract is located in the Archive room of the House of Hope but is protected by an energy field which requires a password to disable.

This password can be found in the Boudoir of the House and can be acquired in various ways:

  • Passing a DC 18 Perception check DC 18 Perception check to notice a button underneath Raphael's portrait to the left of the bed, and a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check DC 20 Sleight of Hand check to disarm the portrait and access the hidden safe behind it. The safe can be lockpicked or opened with the  Key From Raphael's Safe, which drops from HaarlepHaarlep. The safe contains the password and five  Soul Coins.
  • Having an intimate moment with Haarlep without losing their body and mind by succeeding a DC 18 Wisdom check DC 18 Wisdom check or DC 18 Performance check DC 18 Performance check. This results in the incubus handling the key for the safe.

WARNING: Attempting to fight Raphael before destroying the Soul-Sworn Contract results in his claiming the player character's soul, leading to a Game Over screen.

  • The contract cannot be picked up. While the player character is given the option of doing so, it always triggers the dialogue option to destroy it instead.
