...before or after you thundered into my home like a wounded umber hulk? Make no mistake - you're here because I allow it.
Golbraith Stredivas, after party advised him to worry about himself

Overview[edit | edit source]

Golbraith's Cellar[1] is a small private house located directly across from the main gate to Bloomridge Park and north of The Blushing Mermaid. Though it seemingly consists of two adjacent dwellings, the door to the second one (with a separate mailbox) is blocked. The only entrance is at X: -154 Y: -55. The building is two-storied and has a spacious basement.

On a triangular ground outside Golbraith's Cellar three children, CinnamonCinnamon, PunkinsPunkins and Slow-ButtSlow-Butt are playing a game, imitating citizens being detained and scanned by a Steel Watcher. The party can talk to them and participate in the game.

Layout[edit | edit source]

First floor[edit | edit source]

The ground floor features a hatch leading to the basement (see below) and the ladder on the south-western corner, which leads to the first floor. However, the first floor room can also be accessed via jumping onto the balcony.

The upper bookshelf at X: -154 Y: -62 contains a key. The nearby locked rustic chest, however, must be lockpicked (DC 10 Sleight of Hand check DC 10 Sleight of Hand check) to be opened. It contains a book of letters between Golbraith and his son, some gold and a set of Thieves' Tools.

The house owner Golbraith StredivasGolbraith Stredivas is on the first floor. He is a retired monster hunter and an expert in countering mind flayers. He taught his son everything he knew about his metier, but is now concerned about him. Easing his mind about the mind flayers in the city and about his son's mettle as well grants approval from most companions (the formulation depends on the interacting character's Class and Race). If the party choose a friendly course when speaking with Golbraith, he awards them with Abdel's Trusted Shield. Otherwise, the shield can be pickpocketed from him, along with the Golbraith's Hatch Key.

Basement[edit | edit source]

In the north-eastern corner of the room is a locked hatch which leads to the basement. It requires DC 20 Sleight of Hand check DC 20 Sleight of Hand check or aforementioned hatch key stolen from Golbraith.

Descending through the hatch, the party first find themselves in a small cellar, where some containers may keep Camp Supplies or health potions of various grade. The western wall is movable; it is initially marked as a door and does not require any ability checks to detect.

Behind the wall is the main part of the basement: a spacious hall with a study, a training ground, and multiple hunting trophies along the walls. The middle part of the hall is crossed with four Marble Plates which set off the vents emanating CloudkillCloudkill vapors. Each marble plate requires DC 15 Perception check DC 15 Perception check to find and DC 15 Sleight of Hand check DC 15 Sleight of Hand check to disarm. Also, a button on the wall at X: -2342 Y: 834 disables all traps.

Containers around the room (including various vases) may keep gold, Camp Supplies, common weapons, random arrows, various potions and elixirs. The southern side of the room is a makeshift training ground. A Katana lies on a cupboard under a stuffed hyena head.

The northern side has a small study with several books on Illithids and ways to track and fight them. In the far end of the hall, on a weapon stand and on the table are some common and Uncommon weapons. A locked gilded chest which can be opened with Golbraith's Chest Key contains gold and rare alchemical ingredients.

Footnotes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. All three levels of Golbraith's house are marked as "Golbraith's Cellar" both on the map and on the pop-up location tabs. The platter at the entrance, however, calls the building "Golbraith's Home", like most other private dwellings in the city.
