I always loved this park. Spent a lot of time here as a boy battling imaginary monsters.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Bloomridge Park is a large community landscape located in the northern part of the Lower City.[1] It occupies vast territory between Facemaker's Boutique, Lower City Central Wall and The Blushing Mermaid.

The park is tended by groundkeeper Lavernica and, according to her notes, is opened only in the daytime and closed throughout the night. It seems to be a beloved place of citizens' leisure, judging by several picnic spots which are scattered on its grounds. In the north-west corner of the park is a small natural pond with sandy shores, seemingly a part of the half-underground stream running along the border between the Lower City and the Upper City. This stream also feeds a small artificial waterfall in the north-east corner of the park.

The paved part of the park is constantly patrolled by several Flaming Fists.

Access[edit | edit source]

There are four possible points of entrance to the park:

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Bhaalists' Ambush[edit | edit source]

The park patrol is initially led by Manip EdenosaManip Edenosa. In the park depths near the fountain, a group of BhaalBhaal followers have laid an ambushambush. Edenosa is a follower of the Absolute and, if spoken to, recognizes the party as fellow True Souls. She is fully aware of the cultists hiding in the park, but she believes them to be warriors of the Absolute and does not know the true goal of the ambush.

As the party approach the place of the ambush, two can be seen arguing near the waterfall pool in plain sight; all members roll a passive DC 10 Perception check DC 10 Perception check to detect the other hiding cultists: three Night Blades, a Reaper of Bhaal and two Death's Heads of Bhaal. This check is rolled regardless of whether the party spoke to Edenosa prior.

Further course of interaction with the Bhaalists depends on whether the party have already bargained with Orin the RedOrin the Red or with GortashGortash against the other one.[verify]

  • If the party agreed to ally with Orin, one of the ambushing cultists offer them to join the slaughter they are planning to start. The party can agree or decline; the latter choice start a fight with them. Otherwise, the Bhaalists kill as many civilians as they can and flee; the Flaming Fist do not stand up against them.
  • If the party declined Orin's proposition of alliance or have not yet a chance to bargain with her, they become the cultists' target along with the civilians around (civilians remain the prime target). In this case, the Flaming Fist join the fight as neutrals.

If any member of the party passed the Perception check, they can also sneak behind the revealed Bhaalists, climbing up the flowerbeds approximately at X: -135 Y: -5 or the stairs at X: -86 Y: -40. Attacking the cultists first wins a surprise round.

Surviving the fight against the Bhaalists grants the Urban JungleUrban Jungle inspiration to the characters with the OutlanderOutlander background.

If a fight occurs, Manip Edenosa approaches the party after it ends. She chokes on words and behaves strangely. Throughout the conversation it becomes clear that her mind is possessed by the elder brainelder brain, which also makes advances towards the party, asking to help it break free from the Crown of Karsus. The manip's brain then collapses from the overstrain, and she dies. If Edenosa dies in the fight, Fist GriffFist Griff takes her place.[2] If the party let the cultists act and flee, the dialogue with Edenosa is not triggered.

Encounters in the park[edit | edit source]

There are multiple NPC vignettes placed all around the Bloomridge park grounds and nearby.

  • On the paved ground AlbertAlbert is trying to take his dog SparkySparky home. Sparky is an excitable dog who can be convinced to return to his master. He moves quickly, so interacting with him may require using Turn-based mode. During the cultists attack Albert runs away, but Sparky may be killed.
  • Near the statue of Balduran in the centre of the park Eugenie KenridgeEugenie Kenridge and Wendel AshgroveWendel Ashgrove are having a date. In case of a fight, either or both usually become the first victims.
  • At a table at the far end of the park sit four retired Flaming Fists - EldaernthEldaernth, AvourelAvourel, ThokkiThokki and VistraVistra - discussing current events and their past service.
  • Near the side entrance to the park a group of book lovers - CaerdwynCaerdwyn, KepliKepli and MorganMorgan - share opinions about the latest novel they read.
  • Two children, ConallConall and EmenEmen have come to the park to play. However, Conall has thrown their ball too far, and both are arguing on who must bring it back. The ball lies at the waterfall pool, but there is no interaction to give it to the boys and approaching the pool triggers the ambush cutscene.
  • An elderly citizen couple, BertramBertram and Martina KostakaMartina Kostaka, have come to the park for an everyday walk. Martina from time to time begs Bertram to return home, but he persists. As their route regularly comes close to the ambush, both may become the victims of the assault.
  • Behind the park fence DruggagDruggag and Larca MenaLarca Mena are discussing a family of ten refugees from Elturel whom Druggag has recently sheltered in his house.

After the encounter with the Bhaalists is resolved and the party have at least one Long Rest, the set of NPCs inside the park changes.

  • New Flaming Fist patrol, reinforced with a Steel WatcherSteel Watcher, appear: Fist BrottorFist Brottor, Fist EldaFist Elda, Fist MossFist Moss and Fist UlinnFist Ulinn
  • Near the waterfall, three children discuss the Bhaalist's attack. CyrellaCyrella claims her elder brother bested all the assailants alone, and while TamTam and SkipSkip barely believe her, they are eager to hear all the juicy details. There is no option to interact with these three.

Footnotes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. The layout of the city of Baldur's Gate described in various lore sources imply that Bloomridge Park is situated in the namesake district of the city. However, within the game map it seems to have been moved east, to the Steeps district. The Bloomridge district lies to the west of the Steeps, behind the line formed by the Water Queen's House and the Steel Watch Foundry.
  2. Fist Griff is a replacement character who appears for this purpose only and can be never met elsewhere in a playthrough.

  4. Cirian has the rank of 'Death's Head' of Bhaal (and corresponding stats and abilities), while Sinister Hooded Man has the stats of a Night Blade; though none of these titles are shown, the latter rank is lower within the cult's service grades. When approaching, Cirian can be seen scolding her junior for wearing innappropriate clothes.
  5. Can be looted from Edenosa's corpse. However, after death her body is red-outlined, and her subordinates stay close. Thus, securing the tadpole likely requires use of concealment and / or Minor IllusionMinor Illusion.
  6. If the fight with cultists occurs and the Flaming Fist are involved, then afterwards the guards move closer to the waterfall to investigate, which gives a better chance to loot these chests.
