Notes

  • The version granted by Mask of the Shapeshifter is called Shapeshift Shapeshift and does not cost any spell slots
  • Can be used to gain race specific bonuses on equipment and dialogue options if the player disguises as the corresponding race
  • Since the spell changes Creature Size it can be used to fit through some entrances with size requirements
  • Allows using Speak with Dead Speak with Dead on creatures you've killed yourself
  • This does not grant the disguise's racial features. For example, a Halfling disguised as a Wood Elf will still only have 7.5 m movement speed
  • As of Patch 5, you can escape each prison once per character making use of this spell. As long as your appearance changes after being jailed (Commit a crime while disguised, then dispelling the effect while in jail, or vice versa), having the Fugitive Fugitive Condition won't cause guards to spot you. Dispelling the effect before the Fugitive Condition ends will make guards able to recognize you. If you try to escape the same prison more than once using this method, then this will cause guards to spot you no matter what you look like
  • Disguise Self allows one to bypass race restrictions on items and use race-specific dialogue in NPC interactions
  • Disguise Self disables effects that require Brand of the Absolute to trigger, such as Gloves of Power.
  • As of Patch 5, Hotfix 17, you can give yourself racial equipment bonuses for longer than intended by using the Mask of the Shapeshifter, taking the mask off, and long resting without removing the disguise. When you wake up, the disguise will be gone, but the racial bonuses on your equipment will still affect you. Note that this only works for racial equipment bonuses, not racial dialogue options.
