Thrown is a weapon property that allows a weapon to be used as a projectile with the or actions.
A melee weapon with this property can be thrown for a ranged attack, and will benefit from the creature's Ability Score Modifier (Strength) and Proficiency Bonus as usual, instead of being treated as an Improvised Weapon. This combines with the Finesse property: if you throw a Dagger, which has both Thrown and Finesse, you can use your Dexterity Modifier for the attack and damage rolls.
List of thrown weapons
Unique thrown weapons
The weapons listed below possess the Thrown attribute, while other weapons of their same type typically do not.
- Dwarven Thrower - Warhammer +2
- Orphic Hammer - Warhammer +3
- Returning Pike - Pike +1
Weapons that interact with throwing
- Bloodthirst - When thrown, will return to the owner due to its permanent Bound Weapon condition.
- Comeback Handaxe - When thrown, returns to the thrower and damage them.
- Dwarven Thrower - When thrown, will return to the owner. If thrown by a Dwarf, it deals an extra 1d8Bludgeoning damage, or 2d8Bludgeoning if the target is Large, Huge or Gargantuan.
- Lightning Jabber - When thrown, deals an additional 1d4Lightning damage.
- Nyrulna - When thrown, deals 3d4Thunder damage in a 6 m / 20 ft blast, and returns to its owner.
- Returning Pike - When thrown, will return to the owner.
- Slinging Shoes - When thrown, deals an additional 2d4Psychic damage, and returns to its owner.
Temporary sources of the Thrown property
Any weapon can be given the Thrown property via the Weapon Infusion magical effect, which is a possible outcome of the Wild Magic Barbarian Wild Magic table.

Bugs
- Thrown finesse weapons (i.e. Daggers) always use the Strength Modifier for the attack roll.
- When initiating combat with a character using a returning throwing weapon, it will not trigger the returning property. This will only trigger once they are actively in turn-order.
- In many cases, thrown attacks will trigger effects that are described as only affecting unarmed attacks. It is not clear whether this is intentional behavior or a bug relating to the fact that the attacker's hand is empty when the attack actually lands.
- Throwing weapons when dual wielding interacts with fighting styles in the following way: the fighting style applied depends on the weapon that is not thrown and remains equipped. For instance, if a Trident and a Dagger are equipped (using the Dual Wielder feat), throwing the Dagger will apply the Great Weapon Fighting (and damage dices are rerolled if applicable) since the Trident is equipped as a two-handed weapon. On the other hand, if the Trident is thrown, the Dueling style damage bonus is applied.
