For an explanation of all weapon properties, see Weapons.

Thrown Thrown is a weapon property that allows a weapon to be used as a projectile with the Throw Throw or Enraged Throw Enraged Throw actions.

A melee weapon with this property can be thrown for a ranged attack, and will benefit from the creature's Ability Score Modifier (Strength) and Proficiency Bonus as usual, instead of being treated as an Improvised Weapon. This combines with the Finesse property: if you throw a Dagger, which has both Thrown and Finesse, you can use your Dexterity Modifier for the attack and damage rolls.

Bugs

  • Thrown finesse weapons (i.e. Daggers) always use the Strength Modifier for the attack roll.
  • When initiating combat with a character using a returning throwing weapon, it will not trigger the returning property. This will only trigger once they are actively in turn-order.
  • In many cases, thrown attacks will trigger effects that are described as only affecting unarmed attacks. It is not clear whether this is intentional behavior or a bug relating to the fact that the attacker's hand is empty when the attack actually lands.
