Lucretious

From bg3.wiki

Madam Lucretious, also known as Bringer of the Night or Mama Lucretious, is a high elf[1] necromancer and the ringmistress of the Circus of the Last Days.

Oh dear. Screaming children, an oozing corpse - and it's not even my birthday.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

Lucretious is flamboyant, commanding, and flirty, with a larger-than-life personality and a dramatic flair. She is composed and charming.

She has high standards and is dedicated to the success of her circus; currently she is attempting to train a troupe of dancing skeletons as a possible opening act for Dribbles.

As a powerful wizard, Lucretious provides protection for her circus[2][3]. Some members are so confident in her protection, they aren't afraid of the threat of the Absolute and its approaching army. If threatened, Popper may reveal he is unafraid to lose his fingers because he is certain she could replace them[4].

As a necromancer, Lucretious has a very casual attitude towards death; she sees corpses as a useful resource and shows insincere sympathy at the death of Dribbles[5][6]. She genuinely enjoys her work, and when she finds out she'll have to put Dribbles' body back together, she is excited by the prospect of a challenge[7][8].

"Wine-lover extraordinaire" is a part of her self-introduction, and she may refer to the character as a “delectable vintage.” According to Edmundis Magarus, she’s very particular and doesn’t allow the redcaps to organize the wine.[9]

Lucretious claims to be quite old, even ancient[10][11].

Her flirting is not reserved for the party members; a man can be found in the Counting House intending to run away to the circus, citing the way she looked at him[12].

Involvement[edit | edit source]

After the party attends the show of Dribbles Dribbles and discovers that he was replaced by a doppelganger, Lucretious intends to move the circus elsewhere, but cannot do so until the remains of her audience-beloved Dribbles are found. She asks the party to find the scattered body parts of Dribbles so she can reanimate him and continue to use him as part of the circus.

Once the party returns with all seven of Dribbles' missing body parts, Lucretious thanks them for returning the star of her show and rewards them with Spellmight Gloves (or a small amount of gold if the gloves were previously pickpocketed). She lets the party know that the circus will finally leave soon (after the next long rest), so they should buy from its merchants, while they still can.

References[edit | edit source]

  1. Despite being an elf, Lucretious originally had non-pointed, human ears. This was fixed in Patch 3.
  2. Fyodor: Lucretious dead - circus unprotected. We leave - no choice.
  3. Klaus: They say the Absolute's cronies have been busy chopping people up like it's going out of style. Klaus: They won't go near us, of course - Lucretious, Bringer of Night, protects us. Klaus: And even the Absolute knows better than to tangle with a necromancer.
  4. Popper: Cut Popper's hands into juicy bits if you likes - Mama Lucretious can make new fingies for me!
  5. Lucretious: Oh dear - Dribbles' flesh is near torn asunder. Poor thing was most certainly alive when he was hacked up. (Dev Note: more focused on the amature work, doesn’t particularly care that he was alive.)
  6. Lucretious: Ohhh, getting hacked up like that must have been unpleasant - poor dear. (Dev Note: absolutely no sympathy in her voice here - like she’s commenting on the weather)
  7. Necromancer Player: Dribbles is dead, but perhaps I could help you resurrect him? Lucretious: Darling, you know half the fun with these things is getting your own hands dirty.
  8. Lucretious: If you bring whatever you find to me, I'll take it from there. I'm a necromancer after all - and I do so love a challenge.
  9. Fist Patrick: How many redcaps are in a 'handful'? Edmundis Magarus: Enough to clean Crimson's cage but not enough to organise the wine - Madam Lucretious is very particular.
  10. Player: Let's talk payment. I'm expensive. Lucretious: Heh. I can respect that. And you're in luck - because I am old, darling. Ancient. I have seen stars explode and civilisations fall. Lucretious: Along the way, I happened across items of such power, they would make you weep with awe.
  11. Lucretious: You do not live to see the turn of millennia by being stupid - sorry. 'Brave'.
  12. Gilla Merrun: If you're one of Barek's friends sent to talk me down, tell him I've made up my mind! I'm buying that stake in the circus and running away! Gilla Merrun: You don't understand. Barek doesn't understand. The way Ringmaster Lucretious looked at me…
