Dialogue
Dialogue in Baldur's Gate 3 occurs overhead when travelling and when interacting with certain characters.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Interacting with most characters opens a dialogue cutscene where the active party member can choose from a given set of questions, comments and responses. The game can be highly reactive to choices made during dialogue, in both short and long term repercussions. The speaker’s class and race often unlock new options, and additional choices can appear based on discoveries made in game.
Occasionally a conversation option may include ability checks such as , , or . Sometimes the interacting party member may rely on skills, including , , or . Certain spells can also be cast during dialogue, such as . Other spells, like or might be frowned upon if discovered, especially in Tactician and Honour mode. Additionally, the spells or are required for certain dialogues.
Recent dialogue history is shown in the journal menu as a transcript of conversations by order of the time they occurred.
Banter[edit | edit source]
Banter describes overhead conversations between two or more companions outside of cutscenes. These conversations typically have fewer branches and variants than dialogue in cutscenes.

Location Remarks are one line comments made by companions outside of cutscenes remarking on the world around the party at that moment.
