Tags in Baldur's Gate 3 are identification marks attached to characters. They typically allow for additional dialog options. There are many different tags that can be obtained throughout Baldur's Gate 3. Some are defined by virtue of the characters themselves, while others are obtained by performing certain actions throughout the game.

Overview edit

Tags are attached to characters and provide a few uses. Most tags are used for dialog options, e.g. Monk specific dialog options are enabled via the monk tag. Tags like Branded allow for certain powerful item interactions. Which tags apply to a character can be found at the bottom of the 'Detailed View' in the character panel. Note that not all dialog options necessarily are linked to a tag (for instance, the Illithid option shows up in conversations but is not a tag in the character panel).

Below follows a list of all possible tags in the game.

Race edit

Subraces edit

Noticeably, Dragonborn subraces do not have their own tag.

Class edit

Paladins do not have a class tag, only a tag for their chosen Oath (subclass). Clerics have a special class tag dependent on their chosen deity. Picking another class via multiclassing also grants that class' tag.

Subclass edit

Only Paladins and Warlocks have all their subclasses added as tags. For Barbarians only the Berserker subclass is added as tag.

Cleric specific edit

Clerics get their class tag named after their chosen deity. The Cleric of SharCleric of Shar is a special tag exclusive to ShadowheartShadowheart for as long as she stays loyal to Shar during the game. After a specific moment in Act Two she can switch her tag to Cleric of SelûneCleric of Selûne.

Additionally, characters multiclassed into cleric and paladin receive another tag corresponding to their deity. Note that paladins without cleric levels do not select a deity and thus do not receive any of these tags.

Origin characters edit

All origin characters and companions have a tag specific to them.

Special tags edit

Special interactions edit

Disguise self edit

While using Disguise SelfDisguise Self or similar effects, tags granted by race and potentially subrace will be removed and replaced by the race the character chooses to disguise themself as. The actual subrace assigned is outside of the players control. For instance, Disguise Self: Masc DwarfDisguise Self: Masc Dwarf turns the player into a Gold DwarfGold Dwarf, granting both the Dwarf race and Gold Dwarf subrace tags.

Similarly, Disguise Self temporarily removes the Branded tag, causing effects which require the Brand of the Absolute to no longer work, such as Gloves of Power.

Shapeshifting edit

Using either Wild ShapeWild Shape or Displacer Beast ShapeDisplacer Beast Shape temporarily removes the Humanoid tag until shifted back into humanoid form.

Turning Full-illithidFull-illithid permanently removes the Humanoid tag.
