Overview[edit | edit source]
The Dread Hollow occupies western and north-western parts of the Underdark region. The hollow forms a ring-like territory around a chasm, with a very large and brightly shining Sussur Tree growing in the middle[1]. To the north-east, a bunch of Knotted roots leads to a separate grotto overgrown with poisonous Bibberbang mushrooms.
Sussur Tree[edit | edit source]
In the western corner a cave on a rocky cliff can be found, where a mad drow wizard Filro the Forgotten has made his haven. He becomes hostile to the party on sight, as well as several Hook Horrors roaming around. Speaking to Filro's corpse afterwards or successfully examining the Scribbled Notes looted from him may start the , if not started already, or progress it.
By climbing onto a branch of the Sussur Tree at X: -14 Y: -138, the party can obtain a piece of Sussur Tree Bark required to complete the quest. Doing this earns the inspirational event for the characters with background.
Also, the flowers of this tree confer a upon characters who come within range, preventing them from casting spells or cantrips. If picked up and placed into the character's inventory, these flowers also prevent nearby entities from doing the same.
Bibberbang Grotto[edit | edit source]
To the north-east from the Sussur Tree is a vast cave densely overgrown with dangerous Bibberbang mushrooms and their highly flammable spores. Baelen Bonecloak is trapped among their stalks: he fell there holding a burning torch from the stone perch which engirdles the cave inside. The party must decide whether to help Baelen or not, and also may try to collect a valuable
Noblestalk mushroom, which grows in the far end of the cave and is easily destroyed if even a single Bibberbang stalk is triggered to explode.
Helping Baelen to escape earns the inspiration event for party members with the background. The Noblestalk, if successfully collected, can be consumed by Shadowheart or the Dark Urge to recover some lost memories from their past, and grants the inspiration event for party members with the background.
Also, on the stone perch at X: -12 Y: -50 the Explorer's Ring can be looted from a skeleton. In the farmost corner of the grotto a big bunch of
Lolth's Candle crystals can be picked up.
Arcane Tower overlook[edit | edit source]
At the southmost point of the grotto, a vista opens onto the Arcane Tower and the lake below. Also, at X: -41 Y: -209 stands the tombstone of Myrna, a pet dog of Lenore de Hurst. Digging up the grave yields a Dog Collar, which has a special interaction in the Arcane Tower if equipped by an active party member. Otherwise, if the party have already explored the Arcane Tower and read the
Letter from Amarith in the bedroom there, placing some
Autumncrocus on the grave grants approval from

Deep Hole[edit | edit source]
At X: 18 Y: -110, to the north-east of the Sussur tree is a Deep Hole with skeletal remains scattered around. Interacting with the hole prompts the Voice in the Deep Hole to respond with growls or roars. However, if is used, the same growling voice tells the party to run and not disturb it anymore, calling them "flesh-bags". The voice does not respond if the Bulette is dead, suggesting that this is actually the creature the party is speaking to.
The eastern part of the Dread Hollow is one of areas where a Bulette can emerge from under surface. The same Letter from Amarith states that after Myrna's death Lenore de Hurst tried to tame a bulette in her stead.
