Us
Us is an Intellect Devourer and possible Attached Follower which can be encountered during the Prologue of Baldur's Gate 3 aboard the Nautiloid, trapped inside the head of an Elf named Myrnath.
Involvement[edit section | visual editor]
Prologue[edit section | visual editor]
Us is trapped inside Myrnath, who is strapped to a chair with the top of his skull removed, in the second room aboard the Nautiloid. The player character or another party member can perform one of the following actions on it:
- Inspect the exposed brain. (DC 10)
- Attempt a cerebral extraction, staying mindful of the swelling. (DC 10 )
- Break the skull. (DC 10)
- Gently prise the brain from the skull. (DC 10)
Passing an Ability Check frees it. If freed, it receives the Newborn condition for 10 turns after, temporarily lowering its max HP and AC.
After the Devourer is freed, the interacting party member notices an opportunity to cripple it:
- Mutilate the brain. (DC 15)
- Imagine a brain full of holes. A brain like your own. (DC 15 )
- Spare the creature - any injuries might weaken it.
If one of the above checks are passed, Us becomes Lobotomised, reducing its Intelligence from 12 to 8, and its movement from 9 m (30 ft) to 6 m (20 ft). This condition is permanent and cuts Us from the rest of the hive mind, allowing it to attack other Intellect Devourers on the nautiloid without turning Us hostile. If the dexterity check is failed, Us flees instead, turning it and all other Intellect Devourers hostile.
Once freed, Us urges the interacting party member toward the Helm. They can tell Us to go away, attack it, or ask it to join the party.
Us disappears after the nautiloid crash at the end of the Prologue.
Act Two[edit section | visual editor]
If Us survives the Prologue, it can later be found in the Morgue within the Mind Flayer Colony. It has been labelled an aberrant and caged as a result. If it is freed, Summon Us allows the party to summon Us as an ally once per short rest.
As a summon, Us has 55 hit points and resistances to physical and Necrotic damage. Its appearance also changes; its veins become more pronounced and it gains an overall paler appearance, with a green glow on its underside. Its bonelike spines protrude more prominently, and its tendrils gain thorn-like protrusions.
If Us is lobotomised in Act One, it retains this condition in Act Two.
After leaving the Mind Flayer Colony, Us remains with the party. It mentions it will appear as a "kitty" to anyone besides the party. When asked if it wants to serve the Absolute, Us says that "the Absolute does not care about Us, and we do not care about the Absolute".

Attacks and abilities[edit section | visual editor]
If Us is Lobotomised in the prologue, it is significantly weakened in Act Two if summoned as a familiar; its ability scores, hit points, movement speed, resistances, and actions all are impacted.

Notes[edit section | visual editor]
- Us is one of the few characters with multiple voice actors.
- When the party enter the Helm Room of the Nautiloid, the Mind Flayer there orders them to connect the transponder. If Us is the only one to enter the room, the mind flayer has specific dialogue ordering Us to find a thrall instead.
- Us is unique as a completely independent type of summon in that it can be used simultaneously with any other such as Find Familiar or Ranger's Companion.
