Steel Watchers are NPCs mainly found in the city of Baldur's Gate. They were invented by Gortash in an attempt to control the city. Steel Watchers are characterized by their imposing size and ability to self-destruct.

Each Steel Watcher wields a Watcher Greatsword or a Heavy Crossbow akin to Hellfire Engine Crossbow. The weapon does not drop when the Steel Watcher dies. Steel Watchers are immune to becoming:

Characters close to the Steel Watcher are caught in an explosion. The Watcher is in the center. This attack ignores resistance and immunity to Fire damage. Target will still take half damage on a successful Dexterity saving throw.
Explode in a burst of raging hellfire - eliminate all nearby wrongdoers. Hellfire ignores resistance and immunity to Fire damage.
Notes
- When a Steel Watcher is about to die it will self-destruct as a result of the passive feature Failsafe Protocol. The explosion will deal 4d12+26Fire damage[Needs Verification] in an area around the Watcher. The fire damage will penetrate immunities and resistances. A Dexterity saving throw can be made to receive half the damage dealt.
