Oath of the Crown is a subclass of Paladin, released as part of Patch 8 in 2025. [url 1]
Subclass features edit
This subclass obtains all the features from its base class, Paladin, in addition to its unique features outlined below.
Level 1 edit
A paladin must follow their sworn oaths or lose their divine power. For more details, see Oaths and Oathbreaking.
- Oath of the Crown paladins abide by the following tenets:
Law. Uphold civilisation and order.
Loyalty. Your word is your bond; without loyalty, oaths and laws are meaningless.
Responsibility. Deal with the consequences of your actions, and fulfil your duties and obligations.
- Righteous Clarity ( + )
- Target yourself or an ally to additionally grant the target's proficiency bonus to their Attack Rolls.
Level 3 edit
- Champion Challenge ( + )
- Challenge the enemies around you, compelling them to attack only you. Any attacks they might make against other targets have Disadvantage.
- Turn the Tide ( + )
- Shout out and heal all nearby non-enemy creatures.

- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Level 5 edit

Level 7 edit
- When an ally within 1.5 m / 5 ft of you takes damage, you can use your Reaction to magically substitute your own health for your ally's, healing them by 2 × (Paladin level)hit points at the cost of taking 2 × (Paladin level)Radiant damage yourself.
Level 9 edit
- Oath Spells
- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Oathbreaking actions edit
This section details known actions which cause Paladins to break their Oath of the Crown.
Global edit
- Evading being arrested once caught or refusing to be interrogated
- Making promises and then failing to keep them
Act One edit
- Attacking Damays and Nymessa (tieflings who guard trapped Lae'zel) by any means, including options that occur through the dialogue
- As The Dark Urge, chopping off Gale's hand at the point of his possible recruitment
- Killing Quelenna, Taman or Gimblebock (with the paladin character)
- This includes shooting down the marble slab hanging over Gimblebock and Taman
- Letting Arka shoot Sazza (while in dialogue)
- Alternatively, helping Sazza escape from the Makeshift prison
- Deceiving the Topaz in the Sacred Pool to make him throw the coin out of nest
- When the Shadow Druids reveal themselves, telling Kagha the player character won't stand in her way
- Prodding the wing of the Exhausted Bird. As The Dark Urge, the option is "Tear her wings off".
- As The Dark Urge, break Pandirna's legs
- Betraying the tieflings and siding with Minthara, when goblins raid the grove
- OR Betraying Minthara, after promising to help her to assault the grove
- Making a deal with Auntie Ethel to let her escape
- Torturing Liam in Shattered Sanctum
- In Waukeen's Rest, declining to help or leaving the conversation when Counsellor Florrick asks for help finding Ulder Ravengard
- Killing the Zhentarim in the Zhentarim Basement after completing the Find the Missing Shipment quest
Rosymorn Monastery/Creche Y'llek
- Killing Varrl when he refuses to spar with the player character, or failing the roll to stab him non-fatally
- Stealing the Githyanki Egg instead of persuading Varsh Ko'kuu to give it to you
- In Ebonlake Grotto, siding with Sovereign Glut and helping it defeat Sovereign Spaw
- As The Dark Urge, hide Alfira's body after killing her
Act Two edit
- During the Punish the Wicked quest, ordering Madeline to stab herself, or calling her a coward and denying her forgiveness
- When first talking to Dolly Thrice, turning the mechanism of the Moonlantern, causing her pain
- Encouraging Mol to sign a contract with Raphael, or praising her ambitiousness
- Siding with Marcus when he attempts to kidnap Isobel
- OR Kidnapping Isobel yourself after Jaheira already tasked the party with killing Ketheric Thorm
- As The Dark Urge, revealing the player character's depravity to the Strange Ox
- On the first visit to Moonrise Towers, killing the goblins on Disciple Z'rell orders
- Agreeing to help Z'rell kidnap Isobel
- Letting Questioners Jasin and Sumera wipe Minthara's mind
- OR Taking part in the execution and erasing her (as The Dark Urge, use the "Make her NOTHING" option)
- Convincing Acolyte Marls to jump from the pier
- As The Dark Urge, speaking with Steelclaw and trying to remember what the player character did previously
- In the Shadowfell, killing or freeing Aylin if previously agreed to deliver her to Z'rell
- OR Not letting Balthazar deliver her to Ketheric Thorm if promised him to help
Act Three edit
- Providing the newborn mind flayer in the Abandoned Windmill basement with a dead body to feed
- As The Dark Urge, revealing the player character's depravity to the Strange Ox
- Agreeing to help the Strange Ox, then entering the city without him
Wyrm's Crossing/Wyrm's Rock Fortress
- Agreeing to take gold from Arfur Gregorio to 'forget' about rigged toys he donated for refugees
- Accepting Gortash's proposal of alliance at the ordaining ceremony using the Paladin character
- Siding with Gortash (using another character?), then betraying him when speaking with Orin
- OR Siding with Orin, then betraying her when speaking with Gortash
- At Sorcerous Sundries, letting Lorroakan capture Aylin OR helping him do it
- At the Abandoned Cistern, allowing the Emperor to kill Minsc
- OR Attacking and killing Minsc directly
- Activating a Motivator in the Steelwatch Foundry
- Betraying Allandra Grey (about surrendering Redhammer to Waveservants)
- Agree to kill Lora for Auntie Ethel
- OR Announcing the deal with Ethel to Mayrina
- Allowing Astarion to complete the Rite of Profane Ascension
- OR, Convincing him not to ascend, then deciding to release the imprisoned spawn
- At the Murder Tribunal, choosing any of three options to describe how you killed the victim
- Becoming an Unholy Assassin of Bhaal
