Quenora Grisly

Captain Grisly, also known as Quenora Grisly, is the owner of The Blushing Mermaid. She can be found in the Lower City during Act Three and is too hungover to speak to the party, unless they discuss VanraVanra.

If the party speak to Grisly about Vanra's disappearance, she claims that Lora BergauzLora Bergauz has gone mad and is dangerous, threatening her customers. She states Vanra is not real, and is a delusion that Lora cooked up. Believing Lora to be a threat, she intends to put a hit out on her, and offers 3000 gold to the party if they are willing to take her out. Rogues can ask for double the amount, to which Grisly agrees.

If, after being given Grisly's offer, the interacting party member chooses the dialogue option Absolutely not - I refuse to do your dirty work. then "Grisly" drops the act and reveals herself as Auntie EthelAuntie Ethel, a hag. Grisly's true identity can also be exposed by finding a note in the Blushing Mermaid which contains a report on Old Garlow's, using terms like "Auntie". The note is inside a rosewood desk in the same room as Grisly at X: 123 Y: -93. Afterwards, the party can confront Grisly on the note they found; in doing so she instantly drops the act.

Save Grisly edit

The true Grisly can be found in Ethel's lair in The Blushing Mermaid - Basement, enthralled by a Whispering Mask accompanied by Mask of VengeanceMask of Vengeance, Mask of TerrorMask of Terror and Mask of ServitudeMask of Servitude. While Ethel lives, Grisly is hostile on sight. If the party permanently dispatch Ethel and her Pearlspore Bells, Grisly comes to her senses and thanks the party for saving her, granting the The Returned Cap'nThe Returned Cap'n inspiration to party members with the Sage background.

According to a Ransom Note, Auntie Ethel blackmailed Grisly into wearing the mask by kidnapping Grisly's beloved Bosun GannetBosun Gannet.

No Ethel edit

Auntie Ethel does not appear in Act Three if she remained in her lair at the Sunlit Wetlands and did not abandon it. In this case, the real Captain Grisly is upstairs from the beginning and Vanra is not missing.

  • According to a note in the Sword Coast Couriers address book, some believe Grisly is not her real name. Another note in the same book warns couriers to arrive unarmed. Otherwise, they will likely be killed.
