Evasion is a Monk and Rogue passive feature that lets them evade area of effect damage which require Dexterity Saving Throws[See Notes], reducing or entirely negating the damage.

Description

Your agility lets you dodge out of the way of certain spells. When a spell or effect would deal half damage on a successful Dexterity Saving ThrowDexterity Saving Throw, it deals no damage if you succeed, and only half damage if you fail.

How to learn

Notes

  • Refer to this table for a comprehensive list of actions that can be evaded.
  • Despite the description of this feature, it does not strictly matter whether an action has a Dexterity saving throw or whether it is a spell. As a rule of thumb, explosions which involve a Dexterity saving throw can be evaded (e.g. FireballFireball but not Sacred FlameSacred Flame which uses a Dexterity saving throw but is single target). However, this is not true of every such explosion and there are actions without Dexterity saving throws which can also be evaded.
  • This does not do anything to mitigate any additional non-damaging effects that the triggering spell/effect might apply.
