I'm sorry. It's the hunger... If you were to free us... there's no knowing what we'll do.
Chessa

Interactions[edit section | visual editor]

As party members progress through Cazador's Dungeon, they can pass a prison containing Vampire spawn of varying ages, including SebastianSebastian. When spoken to, Chessa comments she smells fresh flesh, and tells herself to snap out of it as the urges from being a vampire spawn begin to take hold. She then asks the party to have mercy and put her and the other children down, as the hunger is becoming too much.

If playing as Astarion, Chessa reacts strongly to his presence as he is the one who captured her and brought her and the other children to Cazador. Astarion can tell Chessa he will free her, but she is still suspicious and asks why. Astarion can then convince her by passing a check:

[1]
  • Chessa
    You want to free us?
    • Chessa
      Why...?
      • [PERSUASION] Simple. I save your lives, your parents stop hunting me. (DC 15)
      • [PERSUASION] I can't bear to see you suffering like this because of something I did. (DC 18)
      • [PERSUASION] I'm not going to let Cazador take advantage of you like he took advantage of me. (DC 18)
      • [NATURE] Because you're vampire spawn. You should be out in the world feasting, not locked in a dungeon! (DC 18)

Passing the check causes her to reveal that Cazador's staff unlocks the doors if the party did not already know. Otherwise, non-Astarion player characters can simply ask Chessa how to free the children, which results in her providing the information readily.

If CazadorCazador is later defeated, Astarion can consume the souls of all vampire spawn or free them, the former resulting in Chessa's immediate death. If Chessa is freed, she can later be seen in the Lower City Sewers with her father GandrelGandrel.

  • Vanja
    Chess? I'm hungry, Chess.
  • Chessa
    We're all hungry, Vanja.
  • Vanja
But I'm really hungry. It hurts.
  • Chessa
I know. Just - just try to hold on, all right? My father will come soon.
  • Vanja
I don't feel good. Everything just feels... wrong.
  • Chessa
Shhh, it's all right. Our parents will come for us.
  • Vanja
    Are you sure?
  • Chessa
Of course I'm sure. And once we're free, we'll make those monsters pay.
  • Andrik
Your eyes don't look right, Chessa.
  • Chessa
Yours neither. They're all red and... bright.
  • Misha
What's wrong with us? Are we sick?
  • Chessa
    I don't know. I hope so...
  • Chessa
So, what do we do when that tall freak comes back?
  • Misha
He opens the door, I get his legs, you get his arms, and Kass goes for the eyes.
  • Kass
Yeah! We'll be out of here in no time.
  • Andrik
Are you sure he's coming back? The others look like they've been down here a long time.
  • Kass
Of course he'll come back. He's got to... right?
