Bargaining are you? A Kara-Tur warlord once tried the same - I made him watch as I ate his concubines and young, then fashioned a codpiece from his skull.
Yurgir

Yurgir is an Orthon, a powerful type of Fiend from the Nine Hells. He has been trapped in the Gauntlet of Shar by Raphael through a contract between them. Initially the player is ambushed by Yurgir. He catches the scent of Raphael immediately. Yurgir laments his hatred towards the devil and explains the details of their contract. As a result of the contract he intends to kill anyone that dare venture into his wing of the temple. Yurgir and his band of Merregons are ready to attack. Through conversation, the party can learn more about his circumstances and about the fate of the Dark Justiciars.

Leave none to hear it, then be set free;

Attacks and Abilities

Infernal Dagger Infernal Dagger

  • Strike a fiendish blow that might Poison Poison the target and deal an additional 4d10Damage TypesPoison.

Invisibility Invisibility

  • Become Invisible at will.
  • Applies Invisible (Condition) for 2 turns. When this condition expires, Yurgir does not appear to be capable of re-casting this ability within the span of the same turn.

Concussive Burst Concussive Burst

  • A thunderous blast that deals 5d8Damage TypesThunder over your foes and pushes them back.

Volatile Cluster Volatile Cluster

  • Throws 3 Orthonic Handbombs at a target, dealing some bludgeoning damage but leaving bombs that explode 2 turns later.
  • Player should be aware that the "bomb" entities can take damage from surfaces and AoE abilities, causing them to detonate early and subsequently causing any other bombs in proximity to do the same.

Explosive Retribution

  • Tosses 14 Orthonic Handbombs in an area around him.
  • Unlike the bombs thrown by the Volatile Cluster ability, these bombs display a red AoE circle around them. Each bomb is still added into the very end of the initiative tracker and will detonate within the same round as they were spawned.
  • Yurgir appears to be capable of using this ability as a reaction when he takes enough damage, and/or when his health drops below a certain point, but the exact trigger conditions are not known.[Needs Verification][1]

Notes

  • Stealing from Yurgir's chests (such as using stealth) will lock the player out of all friendly negotiations with him, even if the characters doing the stealing were not detected.
  • After talking with Yurgir, and a fight didn't occur, a Hoarding Merregon can be traded with. It is found at X: -660 Y: -760. If you trade with it but then kill Yurgir and his minions, it does not drop any gold you used to purchase wares, nor most of the ordinary items traded.
  • The player can help Yurgir fulfill his contract, allowing him to return to the Nine Hells to make a new contract with Raphael. Alternatively, Yurgir can be defeated through conversation or combat.
  • If Yurgir is left unharmed and helped, he will return later in the game.

Concentration Icons.png Spoiler warning! This section reveals details about the story of Baldur's Gate 3.

  • He will help against the boss at the House of Hope and fight the Elder Brain.
  • If Yurgir is defeated via combat or deceit, he will assist the boss in the House of Hope. It is possible to convince him to fight alongside you (DC 30), both against the boss and in the fight against the Elder Brain.
  • There's an Insight check during dialogue to figure out that the lyrics hide a trick, then a persuasion roll of 16 to convince Yurgir to kill his minions, then a Persuasion roll of 21 to convince him to kill his Displacer Beast, then yet another 21 Persuasion roll to convince him to kill himself. Even succeeding on just the first roll will make the fight significantly easier.
  • If you want to fight Yurgir, you can get Nessa, the Displacer Beast, to fight against him with a Persuasion roll of 30.
