Chapel Entrance
The Chapel Entrance is an exterior Location in the Wilderness of Act One. It covers the upper section of the Overgrown Ruins. Four Looters have set up base here, and are arguing whether to continue looting, or to check out the Nautiloid Wreck to the south. The Chapel Entrance contains a door to the Refectory, and a hidden hatch to the Dank Crypt.
There are also several patches of Twisting Vines, and a loose Cracked Stone that may punish those who forget to watch their step.
The Chapel Entrance is located on the cliff north of the Ravaged Beach.
Locations
Entrance from the Roadside Cliffs
The Chapel Entrance can be found in the far-east of the Roadside Cliffs. Some of the chapel walls still stand, much of it has collapsed into rubble.
Rooftop Terrace
The southern edge of the Chapel Entrance appears to be a former terrace on the rooftop of the Overgrown Ruins. Two stone benches looks out over the Ravaged Beach. Water pools in the center, and a patch of Twisting Vines may ensnare unwary players. Two stairs lead down, one west towards the Roadside Cliffs, and the other winds down eastwards. Another set of stairs lead up into the ruins proper.
A hidden Wooden Chest X: 290 Y: 312 with scrolls and some gold is buried in the far south-eastern corner of the terrace. To discover it the player or a party member must make a DC 10 Survival check when walking nearby. The wooden chest can also be sniffed out by Scratch
Chapel Ruins
The Chapel Ruins have two higher-level transepts that look down into the nave of the Chapel. The rogue Warryn stands on a crate on the westernmost transept, while the wizard Quelenna patrols the easternmost. Gimblebock and Taman can be found arguing by a large broken statue by the entrance to the Rooftop Terrance about whether to risk going to check out the Nautiloid Wreck.
Some newer wooden construction can be found in the Chapel Ruins. A wooden crane suspends a Foundation Block above a cracked tile, while a ladder allows easier access to the eastern transept.
In the depths of the Chapel Ruins is a locked Door to the Refectory. It can be lockpicked or interacted with to talk to the other looters within.
Hidden Hatch
To the east of the Chapel Ruins is a long winding path down the cliffside that leads to a locked hatch X: 319 Y: 367. The hatch can be opened with DC 20 Sleight of Hand check, and leads to the Dank Crypt.
Along the path is a buried chest, as well as some Alchemical Ingredients like Balsam and Daggerroot. By the hatch is a lootable skeleton.
A hidden Wooden Chest X: 302 Y: 338 with an arrow and some gold is buried at the start of the path, right before the climbable Knotted Roots. To discover it the player or a party member must make a DC 15 Survival check when walking nearby. The wooden chest can also be sniffed out by Scratch
History
The topside part of the Overgrown Ruins appear to have once been a chapel. Few clues remain topside as to who the chapel was dedicated to, despite the presence of two statues.
Broken Statue
“ | *Time and the elements have left the plaque unreadable.* |
„ |
— Statue Plaque |
The larger, central statue of the Chapel is broken, with the upper half of the torso from the shoulders upwards broken off. The break is jagged and sloped to the side, which suggests it may have broken naturally. A small amount of rubble by the pedestal supports this. The pedestal itself is hefty, with a heavily worn plaque. Metal rings are affixed to each side of the pedestal.
Other cracks are visible in the statue, such as along the back. A broken statue piece can be found under the eastern transept, and may have been the upper half of this statue.
Smaller Statue
A smaller statue of a robed man with an austere face and thick beard reaches towards the broken statue. Similarities in the shape of the robe and pose suggest that it may be a smaller, intact version of the broken statue.
Broken Statue Piece
Another piece of a statue from the shoulders up can be found in an alcove or lower room under the eastern transept. This is potentially the upper half of the Broken Statue, as it looks similar to the smaller statue and is broken along the shoulders. The location is too far for the broken piece to have ended up there without manipulation. Why it was moved, and by whom, is left unanswered.
Crane
Of the more recent wooden construction around the Chapel Entrance, the wooden crane is most notable. It suspends a Foundation Block above a cracked tile.
The crane likely predates the looters, as the wood is weathered, and vines have begun to grow along its base. It is unknown who built it and for what purposes.
