Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

The Frightened Ox will trigger a conversation when the barn behind the inn is approached. He thinks the player is one of the raiders and will then try to attack if the party chooses one of the following options:

  • Back away.
  • Defend yourself.

Otherwise, the party can try to perform an Ability Check to pacify him:

  • [ANIMAL HANDLING] Interpret his behaviour. (DC 10)
    • [PERSUASION] Hold out your hands peacefully. (DC 10)
    • [INTIMIDATION] Square your stance and face him directly. (DC 10)
    • [BERSERKER] [PERFORMANCE] Stare down the beast. (DC 5)
    • [BARBARIAN] [PERFORMANCE] Stare him down, as you have so many beasts in the wild. (DC 5)
    • [RANGER] [DRUID] [PERFORMANCE] Bow deeply - a submissive gesture. (DC 5)

If using Speak with Animals Speak with Animals, the check is slightly easier and no animal handling check is required:

  • [PERSUASION] Look at me - I'm not a monster. (DC 5)
  • [INTIMIDATION] Stay back. I don't want to hurt you, but I will. (DC 5)
  • [DRUID] [PERSUASION] Calm, friend. I won't harm you. (DC 5)
  • [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] BACK DOWN, BEAST. (DC 5)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] Back down. Or else. (DC 5)

However, he will always attack Drow on sight, but only if using Speak with Animals.
