... those who seek to journey to the coast from the interior regions lying to the east will typically seek out the Risen Road. Running parallel to the River Chionthar, the Risen Road provides an overland route all the way from Elturel to Baldur's Gate, and has proven tempting to travellers seeking an alternate to the river barges that sail the Chionthar.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Risen Road is north of the Blighted Village and can be accessed by jumping across the broken bridge. Alternatively, this location can be reached by climbing a ladder in the Secluded Chamber and descending the western cliff.

The abandoned Toll House

The Toll House was once used to collect tolls from travelers but was since abandoned due to the road's dangerous conditions. Anders Anders and his allies, who are searching for Karlach Karlach, are inside the Toll House.

Toll House Basement[edit | edit source]

The Toll House basement can be accessed via a trap door in the same room as Anders. The basement contains a locked door and a dead toll collector. The locked door can be opened by destroying it or using the Toll Collector's Key, which can be found on the side of the road south of the Toll House at X: 104 Y: 525. The basement door cannot be lockpicked.

Past the door are several rooms with trap vents that release poison clouds if the pressure plate is stepped on. There are two stone thrones in the the last room. Sit on or place items on both thrones at the same time to reveal a hidden treasury containing a Greataxe +1, Gloves of Heroism, and several mundane weapons. This room is also trapped, but the pressure plates can be avoided or disarmed.

Located at X: 40 Y: 628, Rugan Rugan and Olly Olly are defending themselves in The Risen Road cave against gnolls. They are transporting a locked caravan strongbox containing the Iron Flask.

If conversation with Rugan goes favorably, he tells the party the password to the Zhentarim Basement in Waukeen's Rest.

If Rugan survives and leaves the area, he and Olly escort the caravan strongbox to the Zhentarim Basement.
