Minthara Baenre is a Drow Paladin of the Absolute who is a potential Companion or antagonist in Baldur's Gate 3. She can be found at the Shattered Sanctum inside the Goblin Camp, planning an attack on the Druid Grove in the name of the Absolute. If helped, the player can start a brief Romance with her.

Personality

Being a Drow and follower of the Absolute, Minthara has a highly hostile and cruel attitude towards other beings, considering pretty much everyone as inferior. She has a special disdain for those who do not share her beliefs, and as a drow noble, she holds drow characters in high regard.

Despite her apparent devotion, a player who romances her can find that she has doubts regarding the Absolute and its actions.

Notable Loot

Gameplay

If Minthara is recruited as a companion, she will already have access to several Illithid Powers, specifically Favourable Beginnings, Charm, Concentrated Blast, and Psionic Backlash.

Recruitment

Although Minthara can be encountered in Chapter One, she cannot join the player's party as a permanent companion before reaching Moonrise Towers.

  • Minthara is first found at the Goblin Camp, planning an attack on Emerald Grove. The player can help her raid the Emerald Grove, but this is not strictly required to recruit her later. However, defeating her during "Defeat the Goblins" – whether by killing her or by knocking her out – will prevent her from appearing again. Failure to resolve the Grove through either of these quests will still result in the tieflings' death on the road.
    • Note that raiding the Grove with her will cause Karlach and Wyll to permanently leave your party. Furthermore, this makes it impossible to recruit Halsin later on. Karlach and Wyll will not leave the party for merely leaving the tieflings to die by inaction, however.

Interactions

Romance

If the player agrees with Minthara and successfully raids the grove, the player will meet her at the party in camp, where she will offer the player a night of intercourse. Should the player accept, the two will meet later that night in the altar nearby camp.

After intercourse, the player will wake up with a naked Minthara on their arms. Then, they can use illithid powers to probe her mind which, she will disapprove of, or if the player is The Dark Urge origin they can give in to the urge and kill her which grants her Mind Flayer tadpole.

Whether her mind is probed or not, Minthara will confess that she has been ordered to kill the player. The player can then attempt to dissuade Minthara from this. If the player succeeds, she will recommend them to not go to the Goblin Camp again due to them having orders to kill the player, and bid farewell until they meet again.

If the player is holding the Mysterious Artefact Minthara will not feel the presence of the Absolute and confess to the player she felt strangely comfortable in her moment free from it, and the player has the option to tell her about the artefact right there.

Trivia

  • Minthara is voiced by Emma Gregory.
  • If the player is a Lolth-sworn drow you have many unique dialogue options, one of which includes condemning Minthara and attacking her for abandoning Lolth.
