Hirelings are recruitable characters who can join and fight alongside the player. Each has a fixed body type, voice, Race, and Background, but can have their name, class, and appearance changed by Withers at any time.

Recruitment[edit | edit source]

A hireling can be recruited by speaking to Withers at any time after reaching Level 3 and paying 100 gold. Hirelings cannot be recruited if the party is full at the time without replacing an existing party member. They can immediately be asked to stay in camp, just like any other companion. In addition to sending them to camp, the player can choose to permanently dismiss them back to the fugue plane for no cost. A hireling dismissed this way can still be re-recruited from Withers later on. If sought out again, the hireling will be at level one with its default name, class, stats and appearance; it will retain any equipment (equipped or not) upon return.

No more than 3 hirelings can be actively recruited simultaneously. When not in use they will always be standing at the same fixed location in camp; as the camp setting changes, so will their default location.

Recruit a hireling. You can befriend them or use them as cannon-fodder - we won't judge.
