Naaber is an overly talkative human who can be found in Carm's Garms at X: 23 Y: 131.

Hello! Hi! Over here! Me!
Naaber

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Upon entering the shop Naaber tries to get the party's attention by hollering and running towards the party. If ignored Naaber follows the party around [1] and continues to pester them until engaged. However he stays inside the shop or nearby vicinity.

Naaber is an aspiring adventurer, but has not yet decided what class he should be. The party must keep re-engaging and talking to him long enough until he goes through all the classes (except druid, which is replaced with a dog). In the end he has an epiphany, that multiclassing is a thing and concludes that he is a genius. On completing this miniquest, Naaber is thankful for the conversation and rewards the party.

The order in which Naaber tries classes is: Fighter; Barbarian; Bard; Cleric; Dog; Wizard; Warlock; Monk; Rogue; Ranger; Sorcerer; and Paladin.

Family[edit | edit source]

Naaber hails from a long line of talkative Noobers, who have also appeared in previous Baldur's Gate games. Using Speak with Dead on Naaber reveals that Noober is his great-grandfather, Nuuber (possibly Nüber) his grandfather and Niiber (possibly Neeber) his father.

  • Noober was the first of his kind, an annoyingly talkative man in the town of Nashkel in the first Baldur's Gate game. His name is a play on an slang word 'Noob'. He follows the party spamming dialogue windows until either waiting out all of his dialogue lines or killing him. This gives the party a reward in experience.
  • Neeber appears in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, in the town of Trademeet.
  • Nüber can be met in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear.

Loot[edit | edit source]

  • If killed, a tiny amount of gold can be looted.

Speak with Dead[edit | edit source]

As Naaber cannot stop talking, Naaber can answer more than the usual 5 questions. Also, the caster cannot leave the conversation without having asked at least 3 questions; the Narrator will mention that "The spell's power wanes - but the spirit refuses to be silent."

Isn't it... lovely... to talk... to someone...?
  • Will you ever shut up?
    • Naaber
      Maybe... some day...
    • Naaber
      But... not... today...
    • Naaber
Did... I... ever... tell... you... about... that... time... I tried... to be... a chef?

        • Naaber
And... that's... how... I... realised... that... being a... chef... wasn't... for me...
  • How do I make this stop?
    • Narrator
*The corpse remains silent. It does not know.*
  • Leave. (if no questions asked)
    • Naaber
Wait... we have... only... just... started... talking...
  • Leave. (if one question asked)
    • Naaber
      Don't... leave... yet...
  • Leave. (if two questions asked)
    • Naaber
Don't... you... want... to... know... more...
    • Naaber
      About... my... life?
  • Leave. (if three questions asked)
    • Naaber
      Why... are... you... leaving... me...
    • Naaber
I... have so much... more... to tell... you...
      • Narrator
"His body longs to rest, but his spirit doesn't stop talking, even as he returns to what one can only hope are the deepest depths of the Hells."

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. Naaber does not always approach the party first, nor does he always follow them around. For example, if first approached by a fighter and choosing the conversation option, "Here's a tip from a real fighter - less talking, more fighting." Naaber comments on finding something to punch, ends the conversation and remains by the tall mirror. If he does not follow the party, further interactions can still be held with him there, progressing through all the class options and (eventually) earning the unmarked quest.
