Great - we can bunk with ten other people and pray none of them have sticky fingers!

Overview edit

Upon approaching the building, any party member may pass a PerceptionPerception check and recognize the flowery motif on the Flophouse patter, in case they have already found the Flowery Key in the tunnels beneath Open Hand Temple in Rivington. Near the entrance, CrakCrak and RiliaRilia are discussing the lack of decent places to stay in the city.

The ground floor of the Flophouse consists of a mess hall and a kitchen. Between them is a wide stairs leading to the first floor. In the mess hall the player character can trade with Trader GriskaTrader Griska, who has various potions and alchemical ingredients in stock. Also, speaking to the adventurers DrimDrim and RosannaRosanna can bring approval from some companions (available for all character classes except SorcererSorcerer). In the kitchen, the cook Queelia ArvisQueelia Arvis can sell some Camp Supplies.

Also, a flophouse employee Dashkent MoliverDashkent Moliver walks back and forth between the reception desk and the kitchen. If the party has progressed the Solve the Open Hand Temple MurdersSolve the Open Hand Temple Murders quest far enough to know that the killer dresses in red, they can ask Moliver about it.

First floor edit

The first floor is divided in two by the corridor starting from the stairs; both parts are lodgings with several bunks and a locked Wooden Chest near each one. The corridor is constantly patrolled by Worker BernyrWorker Bernyr and ends with a locked door to the outer balcony to the west and a small bathroom to the east. All containers here (as well as the backdoor) are red-outlined, but the chests can be looted with the help of sight-blocking means like Fog CloudFog Cloud.

In the southern part of the room, two vampire spawns - DalyriaDalyria and Pale PetrasPale Petras - can be found arguing. These two are Astarion'sAstarion's siblings, and interacting with them progresses his companion questcompanion quest. The dialogue differs depending on whether the party know (or don't know) the true purpose of the scars on Astarion's back.

However, the interaction itself is possible only if none of the party members has a light effect active, or an item with such effect equipped (such as DaylightDaylight or The Blood of Lathander). Otherwise, both spawn receive Sunlight HypersensitivitySunlight Hypersensitivity and teleport away [1]. If playing as Astarion Origin, interacting with the spawns grants some approval or disapproval, depending on the player character's choices during the dialogue.

If Astarion is currently not present, the player character may eavesdrop on the spawns' conversation (requires a DC 10 Stealth check DC 10 Stealth check for a RogueRogue character, or a DC 15 Stealth check DC 15 Stealth check for all others). If successful, they hear Dalyria and Petras discussing their master, the pending ritual and Astarion's disappearance. Regardless of the roll result, the player character gets involved in the dialogue, and a carefully chosen bluff helps to fish the necessary information out of the heedless couple.

Second floor edit

Up a ladder on the second floor at X: -12 Y: 87 is an attic with a red-outlined wardrobe at X: -17 Y: 82 which can be opened with the Flowery Key. However, if the party have not obtained the key, they may lockpick the door with a DC 25 Sleight of Hand check DC 25 Sleight of Hand check roll, or use the backdoor to the outer balcony at X: -29 Y: 80, which is neither locked nor red-outlined, and thus available from outside by most means of spatial movement. The room inside, by several interior details and documents (like Bloodstained Note and Open Hand Temple Plans), may be identified as the serial killer'sserial killer's hideout.

A successful DC 10 Perception check DC 10 Perception check followed by a DC 10 Investigation check DC 10 Investigation check allows the party to find bloody spots near the bed and find Ffion Goldgrind'sFfion Goldgrind's body. Using Speak with DeadSpeak with Dead on her provides the party with some information on the serial murders. Several items here can be interacted with to gain more information about the Open Hand Temple murders. In particular, picking up a copy of the Bloodstained Parchment from the table to the right of the entrance is necessary to progress the Solve the Open Hand Temple MurdersSolve the Open Hand Temple Murders quest. Also, the room can be looted for some poisons and alchemical ingredients to derive them.

  1. In some cases, even DayLight effects of items unequipped but still present in the inventory can make vampire spawns disappear
