Thonos

Thonos was a gold dwarf member of the Harpers. Originally on a mission to look into Bhaalist activity in the city and to find the whereabouts of the Mad Rashemaar, he was killed and impersonated by a doppelganger named Gavv.

History

Bhaalist Resurgence

After rumors of Bhaalist activity surfaced in Baldur's Gate, Jaheira ordered her Harpers to look into the machinations of the Cult of Bhaal, letting them uncover as much information as possible while she led another force of Harpers into the Shadow-Cursed Lands to defeat Ketheric Thorm. However, as Jaheira ordered the Harpers to concentrate their efforts in finding the Rashemaar, Thonos and his cell of Harpers were either killed or captured, only to be brought to Orin.

The sole survivor of the Harper cell, a raw recruit by the name of Geraldus, would be used a live bait for Jaheira and the party to contact, in an attempt to ambush and silence them.

Bhaalist Ambush

Main article: The High Harper

While in Wyrm's Crossing with Jaheira, she will point out Danthelon's Dancing Axe, a store run by Entharl Danthelon, and front for a Harper safe house. In a secret room beneath the store, an impersonated Thonos, Chelvin, Leistine, and Leysin laid in wait to ambush Jaheira and the party.

Upon the party and Jaheira's arrival, Geraldus would attempt - through the use of an old Harper code - to communicate that the Harpers present were traitors. Jaheira, if present in the party, will understand the code and mention to the party that the impersonated Chelvin seemed familiar, and reminded her of Flaming Fist Marcus. Failing to recognize the sign will start combat with the party  Surprised, while recognizing the code and acting on it will surprise the impersonated Harpers.

Notes

• The impersonated Harpers all share the same doppelganger stat block, but there are stats in the game files for a non-impersonated version of Leysin that is completely inaccessible in-game.
  • The doppelganger form reverts it back to 9m of movement.
  • The doppelganger form weighs 65 kg.
  • The original version of Thonos had 10 STR, 12 DEX, 12 CON, 16 INT, 12 WIS, and 10 CHA; despite having "Dwarf_Caster" stats, he has a ranged archetype.
• Thonos's portrait does not resemble his model's appearance. His model features a more rugged and scarred face, and a set of armour similar to the Ring Mail Armour set, while his portrait depicts him with a younger, unscarred face, and plain civilian clothes.
