Muscles and physical power.Strength is an ability score and the primary ability of Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin.
Strength affects your Athletics skill and attack rolls so you become better at melee combat. It also determines how far you can jump, how much you can carry and how far you can shove (possibly based on Athletics).

Exceeding 70% of carrying capacity results in becoming Encumbered, and exceeding 90% results in becoming Heavily Encumbered.

Sets Strength
The following items set the user's Strength score to the specified value. They will have no effect if the user's Strength score is higher without them.
Elixir of Hill Giant Strength sets Strength to 21

Increases Strength
The following items increase Strength while equipped, or until the effect wears off:

Devilfoil Mask increases Strength by +1 per nearby creature also wearing a mask
Broken Promises increases Strength by +2 until long rest, and then permanently reduces it by 1

Auntie Ethel's Hair permanently increases Strength by +1
