Redirect Attack is a Way of the Drunken Master monk reaction/passive feature that allows the monk to make an unarmed riposte against their attacker.

Description

When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can spend 1  Ki Point as a reaction to make an unarmed attack against the attacker.

Notes

• This ability's name is misleading: in the D&D 5e ruleset, it generates an attack against a different enemy, but the game implements it as a counterattack against the original attacker, similar to the  Riposte manoeuvre, but using an  Unarmed Strike (Monk).
• Like Riposte, Redirect Attack only triggers from melee attacks (including melee spell attacks) made from within 2 m (7 ft). This is slightly longer than the normal weapon range of 1.5 m (5 ft) but shorter than the 2.5 m (8 ft) range of  Extra Reach weapons, so it cannot counter attacks made at full range from pikes and similar weapons.
• Despite its similarities with Riposte, Redirect Attack inherits code from  Instinctive Charm, which results in the following behaviours:
  • It can counterattack  invisible enemies.
  • It can be used while the monk is  Blinded.
  • It can counter attackers that are not enemies.
  • It  counterspells the attacker's spell. As it is triggered by a melee spell attack that continues to run after the miss,  Vampiric Touch is probably the only practical case.
