Involvement
Act One
Lump is found in the Blighted Village. He and his two other Ogre companions Chock and Fank have found work checking other creatures for the mark of the Absolute. If the party approaches Lump, he will check them as well. If the party have not received the brand of the absolute from Priestess Gut, Lump will attack unless he can be convinced otherwise:
- [BRANDED] Show him your brand.
- [DECEPTION] I'll do you one better - I'm one of the Absolute's chosen disciples. (DC 10)
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] What about you? I'm feeling hungry... (DC 10)
- [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] ROAR. (DC 10 )
- [PALADIN] [INTIMIDATION] Try to eat me and I'll brand your corpse with the mark of my oath. (DC 10)
- [DECEPTION] Flash your arm at him. There you are. You could see the brand, could you not? (DC 10)
- [INTIMIDATION] Do not test the Absolute's finest, ogre. You would not survive Her wrath. (DC 10)
Lump can then be told to forget the goblins and convinced to work for the party instead of the Absolute:
- I'll give you 500 gold if I can call you into battle.
- I'll give you 1000 gold - after you fight for me.[note 1]
- [ROGUE] [DECEPTION] 1000 gold - to be paid once the killing's done. (DC 5)[note 1]
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] How about I spare your life. That tempting enough? (DC 20)
- [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] JOIN ME OR I'LL CRUSH YOU TO PULP! (DC 20 )
- [PERSUASION] I'll pay you in the flesh of the fallen - you'll have your fill. (DC 15)[note 2]
- [PERSUASION] I'll pay you in the flesh of the fallen - you'll have your fill. (DC 20)[note 1]
- [PALADIN] [INTIMIDATION] Fight for me and my oath or I'll cut the last meal from your belly. (DC 20)
Whatever choice used to convince him, he will give Lump's War Horn to call him with. It's possible to summon Lump and two Ogre companions a total of three times. If for whatever reason you pickpocketed the horn off of him, blowing it will lead to a fight as he deduces the party stole the horn.
Once convinced to fight for the party, he and his two other Ogre companions disappear immediately from the Blighted Village. Lump and company cannot be called to a fight too far from their original location; for example, they cannot be called to the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
If promised gold, he will come to collect it after the first fight, at which point he can be paid, attacked, or convinced to wait for a 2500 gold payment after the next fight with a DC 15 Deception check.
If Lump was promised gold but never called, he will still eventually appear in camp to collect, and the party can pay him or intimidate him into leaving them alone:
- Pay him what you promised.
- [INTIMIDATION] We have a new bargain: I pay nothing, and you leave the camp alive. (DC 20)
- [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] FOLLOW ME AGAIN AND I'LL EAT YOU. (DC 20 )
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] You can leave alive, or you can roast over my campfire. (DC 20 )
Any other option will cause him and his buddies to attack.
Lump has in his possession a Warped Headband of Intellect. He accidentally ate it, which is the source of his unusual Intelligence for an Ogre.[1]
