Main article: Return the Locket

If he survives the battle and remains in the Grove, MeliMeli will steal his Brass Locket, causing Barth to confront him and kicking off the quest Return the Locket

The party can side with Meli or Barth, and through a variety of Persuasion or Intimidation checks can force either side to relent. Alternatively, the party can opt to do nothing, which leads to an altercation where Barth slaps Meli, who then cries out with IkaronIkaron responding.

If Ikaron joins, he questions why Barth is threatening a child. The party can either allow Meli to keep the locket or force Meli to return it.

If the conversing party member allows Meli to take the locket, it can be recovered from the Tiefling Hideout and returned to Barth. By passing a DC 15 Persuasion Check DC 15 Persuasion Check or reading his mind, the party can learn that his mother had stolen the locket from someone else in the first place. Upon returning the locket, the party can ask for coin as a reward. Rogues can ask for a greater amount, which Barth reluctantly agrees to if the rogue passes a DC 15 Persuasion Check DC 15 Persuasion Check. After the locket is returned, the party can demand it back from him, resulting in a fight.

Returning the locket to Barth[edit section | visual editor]

Lastly, if Meli escapes, the locket is stored inside a thief's chest at the Tiefling Hideout. Lockpicking the chest and stealing the locket back allows the party to return the locket to Barth. He then is grateful and also thanks party if they stopped him from slapping Meli because he lost his cool.

Idle banter[edit section | visual editor]

Barth will chat briefly with Remira if they both survive the Grove attack:

  • Remira
    Think more are coming?
  • Barth
    They got their fill.
  • Remira
    Liam isn't here...
  • Barth
He didn't make it this far. You saw them grab him.
  • Remira
    You don't gotta remind me.
  • Remira
    We shouldn't be hanging around.
  • Barth
Give it a rest. We have time.
  • Remira
    Maybe you do.

Later, Barth will accuse Meli of stealing his locket:

  • Barth
Don't make me hurt you, boy.
  • Meli
Too late. Looking at you is painful enough.
  • Barth
    Give it back, kid.
  • Meli
I already told you I don't have it. How stupid are you?
  • Barth
Don't you lie to me, boy. I know you have it.
  • Meli
Touch me and I'll bite your fingers off. I will!
