Involvement[edit | edit source]

The party can ask Alan about Duke Stelmane'sDuke Stelmane's murder and about whether he has a free room. Alan remarks that the murder has spooked off many potential customers and offers to let the party stay in the whole upstairs floor until the panic subdues and people realize there is nothing to worry about.

Alan asks for a mere 200 gold for the party to use the whole floor, though he can also be persuaded to make the room available for free through dialogue ability checks:

  • Fair point. Here's the money. (200)
  • [PERSUASION] You want 200 gold to sleep next to a murder scene? Really? (DC 18 Advantage Icon.png(if the party know that there was a murder)
  • [PERSUASION] If I'm staying in this place, I'll make sure to protect it. (DC 18)
  • [PERCEPTION] Point out the tavern's obvious dirt and grime- that should get you a discount. (DC 18)
  • [ROGUE] [DECEPTION] I'm with the Guild. You'll be giving me the Nine-Finger discount. (DC 20)
  • [BARD] [PERSUASION] Cut the price, and I'll spread word of this place for miles around. (DC 18)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] NO. FOR FREE. (DC 18)
  • [SORCERER] [INTIMIDATION] I could wave my hand and turn this place into rubble. (DC 18)
  • [WIZARD] [HISTORY] Recite Elminster's journal entry about his free stay at the Elfsong Tavern. (DC 18)

Failing any of the checks results in Alan raising the price to 300 gold.

If the party spend gold or used an ability check, the Elfsong Tavern campsite becomes the permanent camp while the party is in the Lower City, replacing the waterside back alley camp.
