Involvement

Willoughby hosts the contest Laff Riot at the Elfsong Tavern, and is watched by his son  Belford Willoughby.

Laff Riot

The contest consists of three tours of jokes from the player character. Each tour has three jokes and an additional option to intimidate the public into receiving the party well.

The source file for the tournament has tags ComedyTournament_Approval for the jokes worn well with the public, or ComedyTournament_Disapproval for the lame ones. Each tour has one good joke, one bad and one "neutral" (without a tag).

Lines with the Intimidation options have approval tags on success and thus allow to continue the contest (if it is not the Tour 3), but give an instant lose on a failed/botched roll. Intimidation lines in Tours 2 and 3 have a high DC, but are available to all classes, unlike the Tour 1.

• [INTIMIDATION] [D] What do you call a room full of people who don't applaud? Dead. (DC 20) (good on success)

Tour 3:

• [A] The Dead Three, am I right? What losers. You know why Bane worshippers will never conquer the world? They don't have the Bhaals! (neutral)
• [B] A mind flayer's duergar slave lost his nose, so I asked the illithid, 'How does he smell?' and it said, 'I have eaten its brain.' (lame)
• [C] Our cleric tried to cast Healing Word on a ham, but it was already cured. (good)
• [INTIMIDATION] [D] CLAP, OR I'LL RIP OUT YOUR SPINES. (DC 25) (good on success)

To win the contest, the player character must combine the jokes (or, should they wish so, threaten the public) to gain at least two "approval" points AND not a single "disapproval" one at the same time. Thus, joke combos which win the contest, including successful Intimidation checks in Tours 2 and 3, are as follows:

Harvard Willoughby's death is one of three conditions that must be met for the summoning of  Harvard Willoughby (Nature's Vengeance).
