The Ravaged Beach is a Location within the Wilderness in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3. This is the location the player character arrives at immediately after the events of the Prologue.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Located on the bank of the River Chionthar, the Ravaged Beach is dominated by wreckage from the Nautiloid crash. Corpses of anglers and Intellect Devourer intellect devourers dot the area. Several makeshift docks line the coast, but both them and the fishing boats that used them have been destroyed. To the east is an ancient door leading to the Dank Crypt. To the north is the Emerald Grove.

Western beach[edit | edit source]

Astarion Astarion can be recruited near the Nautiloid Wreck at X: 170 Y: 288. After speaking with Astarion, the party can interact with a nearby Scared Boar Scared Boar. West of this area, along the far side of the beach, is a hidden Harper cache at X: 143 Y: 281. The cache can be retrieved by jumping down the ledges near the water at X: 168 Y: 263. Passing a DC 10 Nature check near the cache reveals deep grooves around a scuffed rock, indicating it was previously moved. A character with sufficient Strength can move the rock to reveal a chest with minor loot, including a Harper's Map and Harper's Notebook.

Eastern beach[edit | edit source]

The player character begins Act One on the beach. Shadowheart Shadowheart is either unconscious on the beach or attempting to open an ancient door next to the Overgrown Ruins waypoint. The door leads to the Dank Crypt, which can be accessed by passing a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check or by entering through the Chapel Entrance or Refectory. Several corpses are also scattered along the eastern beach, which can be spoken to with Speak with Dead Speak with Dead.

Nautiloid Wreck[edit | edit source]

The Nautiloid Wreck contains several injured enemies. The southern section is guarded by three intellect devourers at X: 230 Y: 271. In the northern region, a Mind flayer (nautiloid wreck) dying mind flayer is crushed by debris at X: 180 Y: 320. Killing the mind flayer earns Inspiration Icon.png To Sleep, Perchance to Dream, Tentacled Dreams for the Haunted One.

Roadside Cliffs[edit | edit source]

The Roadside Cliffs sprawl north of the Nautiloid Wreck and south of the Emerald Grove. This area is littered with broken goblin traps, suggesting the presence of a nearby camp. Interacting with the waypoint reveals Gale Gale, who needs a hand after his wizardry escape from the Nautiloid went awry. The Dark Urge has unique interactions with Gale's protruding hand. If fantasizing about hacking off his hand, the Dark Urge will actually do so, killing Gale and precluding his recruitment as a companion. Giving in or resisting the urge earns Inspiration Icon.png Indulge Thine Appetites or Inspiration Icon.png Subdue Thine Appetites for the Haunted One, respectively. Additionally, Lae'zel Lae'zel can recruited at X: 242 Y: 370, where she is being held captive by tieflings. A buried chest and shovel are at X: 202 Y: 386, which can be used to unearth hidden loot.

Harper outpost[edit | edit source]

Tucked away high in the Roadside Cliffs, a Harper outpost features a watchtower with loot. A small spider-filled crevice is at X: 160 Y: 373, which contains a Spider Egg Sac and gold. Next to the firecamp, a skeleton can be looted to obtain a Silver Pendant.

Emerald Grove environs[edit | edit source]

When the party approach the Emerald Grove, Aradin Beno Aradin and his fellow mercenaries are fleeing from a band of goblins, attempting to enter the Grove before they are ambushed. When they fail to pass through the gate, Wyll Wyll leaps from the ramparts into the fray. If all allied defenders survive, Inspiration Icon.pngNo One Left Behind is granted for soldiers. After the battle, the party gain entry into the Grove.

Overgrown Ruins[edit | edit source]

At X: 285 Y: 305 a locked ( DC 20 Sleight of Hand check) door is found, leading into the trapped sarcophagus room of the Dank Crypt. If she was not freed from the pod in the Prologue, Shadowheart Shadowheart can be found here, attempting to gain entry.

  • If Lae'zel Lae'zel died on the Nautiloid, her body is on the Ravaged Beach and she can be revived and recruited early.
  • Shadowheart Shadowheart can be found unconscious on the beach if she was freed from the pod during the Prologue. If she was not freed from the pod, she can be found attempting to gain entry to the nearby Dank Crypt. In both scenarios, she can be invited to join the party or ignored.

On a stone arch overlooking the ancient door is a cartilaginous chest at X: 272 Y: 277. The chest can be accessed by jumping down from the cliffs near X: 255 Y: 300.
