How to learn

Classes:

• Class Level 1: Bard , Druid , and Nature Domain Cleric (Domain Spell)

• Class Level 2: Ranger

• Class Level 3: Oath of the Ancients Paladin (Oath Spell), and Wildheart Barbarian

Races:

• Character level 1: Forest Gnome

(Character level is the sum of all class levels for a multi-classed character.)

Feats:

•  Magic Initiate: Druid
•  Magic Initiate: Bard
•  Ritual Caster

Granted by the following items:

• Potion of Animal Speaking

Other ways to learn:

• Also granted to Warlocks who choose the Eldritch Invocation  Beast Speech at level 2+. This version of the spell can only target self, and doesn't expend Spell Slots.

Notes

• Wildheart Barbarians can cast this spell once per Long Rest.
• Forest Gnomes can cast this spell once per Long Rest.
• Knowledge Domain Clerics have a version of this spell called  Read Thoughts that is used by expending a Channel Divinity charge instead of the Spell Slot and the spell is not considered Ritual.
• Druids must keep this spell Prepared, or the effect will be lost.
