Strength is an ability score and the primary ability of Barbarian, Fighter, Paladin.
Strength affects your Athletics skill and attack rolls so you become better at melee combat. It also determines how far you can jump, how much you can carry and how far you can shove (possibly based on Athletics).

Exceeding 80% of a character's carrying capacity causes the Lightly Encumbered condition:
- Carrying too much weight.
- Movement Speed reduced by 3 m / 10 ft, and Jump distance is halved.
- Carrying far too much weight.
- Movement Speed heavily reduced, and you can no longer climb or Jump. You also have Disadvantage on Ability Checks and Attack Rolls, as well as Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution Saving Throws.
Ways to increase[edit | edit source]
The following items/entities can be consumed/used for a permanent bonus to Strength:
- Auntie Ethel's Hair: +1 to any chosen ability
- Mirror of Loss: +2 to any chosen ability, up to a maximum of 24
- Potion of Everlasting Vigour: +2 to Strength
The following feats can increase Strength up to a base value of 20:
- Athlete: +1 to either Strength or Dexterity
- Heavily Armoured: +1 to Strength
- Heavy Armour Master: +1 to Strength
- Lightly Armoured: +1 to either Strength or Dexterity
- Moderately Armoured: +1 to either Strength or Dexterity
- Resilient: +1 to any chosen ability
- Tavern Brawler: +1 to either Strength or Constitution
- Weapon Master: +1 to either Strength or Dexterity
