Involvement[edit | edit source]

Brathwen and his mate Viss Viss are both Novices of the Absolute and can be found near the entrance of Grymforge, opposite to the berth (X: -608 Y: 404). They have been tasked with disposing of corpses of Deep Gnome slaves that died recently under the rockfall.

Speaking to Brathwen, there will an option to ask whether the Duergar are searching the bodies for any loot, and roll DC 10 Perception check next. Or, it is possible to prepare to attack. At this point one of the party members might intervene.

If the initial roll has been successful, the interacting party member will notice a trinket on one of the bodies. After that, they might try to obtain the shiny thing by DC 20 Sleight of Hand check, try to chase the two Duergar away by DC 10 Deception check, or attack them both.

Failing either check will lead Brathwen to notice the party member's actions and take the trinket himself. In further dialogue the Duergar will propose to purchase the bauble from him, with possible options to trade, let him take the thing or attack him.

A successful Sleight of Hand check will provide the party member with the rare ring, Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands.

If choosing to deceive the Duergar and succeeding, the party will need to loot the dead gnomes one by one until they find the trinket [1]. The last option to obtain the ring is simply to defeat Brathwen and Viss and loot it from Brathwen's body.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. Brathwen and Viss dispose of the corpses kicking them off the shore into the deep water. If not approaching them at once upon arriving at the Grymforge, the Duergar will eventually leave one of the bodies intact - the very same that has the ring on it.
