Elder Brithvar leads a group of duergar mercenaries in Grymforge during Act One. The group was hired by True Soul Nere to locate the Adamantine Forge.

“Yet you got that Twat-Soul stench. If I didn't know better, I'd say a mind flayer shat a worm in your brain. Should split your head open and poke around in there if you lot don't pay up.„
Involvement[edit | edit source]
Act One[edit | edit source]
Brithvar can be encountered discussing with his lieutenant Kur at the duergar encampment in Grymforge at X: -624 Y: 355.
Like many duergar at Grymforge, Brithvar holds no loyalty towards the Absolute and resents Nere for withholding their promised payment. While initially suspicious of the party, as his ability as a duergar to detect Illithid presences makes him believe them to be a True Soul, he can be convinced otherwise and talked into leading a mutiny against Nere through advancing , causing half the duergar to fight against Nere once the drow is freed. After leaving the area or taking a long rest, he and the surviving duergar leave Grymforge before Absolute reinforcements arrive. He can be persuaded or intimidated into leaving the enslaved deep gnomes behind, allowing them to return to Baldur's Gate.Combat[edit | edit source]

Idle banter[edit | edit source]
- Stone Guard Kur
- So say your chum blows Nere out of there. What then?
- Elder Brithvar
- Then I'll stick Nere up, down, and sideways 'til he's more hole than flesh.
- Elder Brithvar
- We take his gold. And I got more in mind, if shit goes down smooth.
- Stone Guard Kur
- Let the poison choke Nere and be done with it, I say.
- Elder Brithvar
- All that rock-thumping and pud-pounding wrecked your mind-brain?
- Elder Brithvar
- Dead or alive, we ain't get our coin 'til Nere's dug out.
- Elder Brithvar
- Besides - I'd like to force-feed him some of that shit he's stirred up.
- Stone Guard Kur
- So say your chum blows Nere out of there. What then?
- Stone Guard Kur
- You sure we can trust 'em?
- Elder Brithvar
- Shit - 'course I ain't sure. I ain't even trust you most days.
- Elder Brithvar
- But we got nothin' to lose. It all goes to plan, and our arses get paid.
- Elder Brithvar
- If it goes belly-up? We got a scapegoat. It's Nere's game to lose.
- Elder Brithvar
- The gnome bolted. Saw it myself. Thrinn still ain't caught a whiff of her - slaves are paying the price.
- Elder Brithvar
- Those pricks'll get nowhere with just axes. Thrinn's gone touched in the head.
- Stone Guard Kur
- That's the cult's doing. Dunnol's joined up too.
- Stone Guard Kur
- Drugh. The cult-pricks are spreading like flies on shit.
- Stone Guard Kur
- See where the gnome sapper went?
- Elder Brithvar
- Thrinn ain't found a trace. Found a way past the rockfall, is my guess.
- Stone Guard Kur
- Skarjall still at it, then?
- Elder Brithvar
- Prick ain't stopped caning those beasts, last I saw. And he still ain't broke through.
