Sceleritas Fel[1] is a Fiend in Baldur's Gate 3 integral to The Dark Urge'sThe Dark Urge's past. While he himself encourages his master towards evil, the Dark Urge can be resisted. He only appears within a Dark Urge playthrough, or if The Dark Urge is within a Multiplayer party.

Milord? Jubilant day! I have found your vile self at last! Sceleritas Fel. Your loyal and ever-adoring butler.

Involvement[edit section | visual editor]

Act One[edit section | visual editor]

When the Dark Urge is chosen as origin, the player character suddenly awakens from a long rest to find out they have murdered AlfiraAlfira (or Quil GrootslangQuil Grootslang, a Dragonborn Bard, if Alfira is unavailable). Whether they embrace this murder or not, Sceleritas Fel reveals that he is their humble butler,[2] giving small hints as to what kind of person the Dark Urge may have been. He actively encourages the Dark Urge to commit more deplorable acts of murder, claiming the player character should "Be true to yourself, my Lady/Lord."[3] He gifts the player character with the The Deathstalker Mantle as a reward for murdering the Bard, and leaves them to their business.[4]

Act Two[edit section | visual editor]

Sceleritas appears again while in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, this time with a new task. He insists the player character kill IsobelIsobel, and by extension, cause the deaths of everyone within the Last Light Inn. If he is refused or if Isobel has already been captured by MarcusMarcus, he appears, and informs the player character that they will kill either their closest companion, or their lover, to sate their urge and to get the Dark Urge back into the good graces of BhaalBhaal. He expresses great disappointment if they refuse to kill Isobel or their closest companion or their lover.

The only known options available to assist are:

Inspirations can also be used, but only to deceive the party if the save is failed.[5] If the player character fails their save to resist The Urge, and then goes back to sleep, or kills their companion, they must pass a separate check, or the camp turns hostile. If a companion is killed this way, all the companion's equipment is lost.

Sceleritas usually cannot be fought in combat. If the party progress past the point of no return in Act Two without satisfying The Urge, Sceleritas waits in ambush outside Moonrise Towers to force the issue. If the party approach stealthily with an ability to see InvisibleInvisible creatures, it is possible to attack and kill Sceleritas in a single turn. However, he still turns up at the next Long Rest, unscathed and without mentioning the incident.

If the player character kills Isobel, Sceleritas visits them and bestows upon them the SlayerSlayer form, a powerful ability allowing the Dark Urge to take on the form of a monstrous, giant being with four arms, razor claws, and terrifying mandibles - a gift granted only to the favoured of BhaalBhaal.

Act Three[edit section | visual editor]

Sceleritas Fel appears again within the Temple of Bhaal to welcome the player character 'home.'[6] He is aware of the duel between the player character and Orin the RedOrin the Red, and personally opens the door for them, allowing them to pass without requiring the Amulet of Bhaal. It is clear that Scleritas Fel and Orin the Red are not allies, as Orin kills him frequently – up to three times a day – and Sceleritas would much prefer being killed by The Dark Urge. Once Orin is defeated, several blades appear from his body, seeming to stab through him. Within the reflection of his blood the Avatar of Bhaal appears, identical to Sceleritas, but with glowing red eyes, and a deep, imposing voice. The Avatar offers the Dark Urge to become their Chosen, whether they have been resisting or indulging their urge up to this point.

Should the player character accept, the Avatar of Bhaal grants them the Slayer form if they had not previously received it, along with one use of Power Word KillPower Word Kill and allows for the player character to pursue controlling the Absolute in the name of Bhaal. Afterwards, Sceleritas is available at the campsite. He praises the player character for killing Orin and becoming Bhaal's chosen. The player character can ask Sceleritas questions such as The Dark Urge's past and future (and romance partner if any are pursued), and more details on Sceleritas (with Sceleritas being deemed unimportant in his own mind). Afterwards the player character has the option to have Sceleritas stay silent or be permanently killed.

Should the player character refuse Bhaal's gift, the deity drains the Dark Urge's essence, killing them. However, WithersWithers ultimately resurrects the character, freeing them from the Urge's influence for good.

Should the player character either lose the duel to Orin or not show up at all in the Temple, Sceleritas visits them. He is furious and devastated that he could not guide his master back to greatness. Sceleritas also informs the player character that Bhaal intends to punish them both for their failure: the player character will be driven into madness once the Absolute is dealt with, while Sceleritas will be permanently killed as he no longer has a master to serve. Depending on the player character's final words to him, Sceleritas either curses his former master or bids them a mournful farewell.

Notes and references[edit section | visual editor]

  1. From the Latin "scelus", meaning "evil deed, wickedness"
  2. Sceleritas is either a reference to, or at least follows in the footsteps of CespenarCespenar.
  3. According to Sceleritas, the worst thing the Dark Urge did in the past was giving some coin to a beggar out of kindness while heading to the Devil's Fee. This act still gives Sceleritas nightmares.
  4. If the Dark Urge is played as Origin and either AlfiraAlfira or QuilQuil are killed in camp by another (e.g., AstarionAstarion) before finishing the Long Rest, conversation options in camp next morning proceed as if the Urge killed them, and Sceleritas still meets with them upon the next Long rest; he then expresses disappointment they missed their opportunity and does not reward the cape.
  5. 5.0 5.1 The LuckyLucky feat can only be used to deceive the rest of the party after the save to resist killing a close companion has failed.
  6. If the player character wears Sclereritas' hat when arriving at the temple in act 3, he mentions this in dialogue, requesting the player character removes it for combat with Orin, in order to not appear as a "lowly servant".
