Description[edit | edit source]

Gimblebock is the highly aggressive and selfish gnome leader of the crew of bandits looting the Overgrown Ruins. He's quick to start a fight under the assumption that the player is his competition, trying to steal whatever treasure is on the Nautiloid Wreck and in the ruins.

He's eager to take a break from the crypt, after making little headway over the course of several days, to investigate and loot the Nautiloid Wreck. When the player arrives, he is discussing this with a member of his crew, Taman, who is against the idea.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Gimblebock can be found at the Chapel Entrance with Quelenna Quelenna, Taman Taman, and Warryn Warryn. When the party approach, he automaticallys engage them in conversation and asks them to leave.

The party can use one of several Ability Checks including Persuasion, Deception, Intimidation as well as class-specific options for monks, warlocks, paladins, barbarians, and fighters to cause Gimblebock and the others to leave peacefully. Alternatively, the party can decide to attack them.

If the player character meets Gimblebock after exiting the crypt while using Detect Thoughts Detect Thoughts, they learn that he is wondering what happened to his crew inside the crypt - though he is more worried about whether the player character has the upper hand than him regarding his allies' lives.

Resolving the situation peacefully rewards 50 XP and Inspiration Icon.pngCheese Your Way Through for those with the charlatan background, including Astarion Astarion. Fighting the bandits will grant 70 XP and the opportunity to take all their gear. Triggering the encounter from the balcony with Warryn does not lead to any approval increase no matter which option is chosen. It is necessary to start the encounter from the lower area near Gimblebock and Taman. It is possible to defeat the bandits after convincing them to leave, granting a total of 120 XP.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • As of Patch 1, Gimblebock's race is simply "Gnome", without having a subrace specified (unlike his fellow bandit Warryn who is listed as a Rock Gnome). This may be a bug.
  • Gimblebock chose an unfortunate place to stand and talk. If the party get close enough without being seen, they could snap the coiled rope holding the foundation block above him.
