“... You're both twice as tall as me but have half the bloody backbone!„
Description
Gimblebock is the highly aggressive and selfish gnome leader of the crew of bandits looting the Overgrown Ruins. He's quick to start a fight under the assumption that the player is his competition, trying to steal whatever treasure is on the Nautiloid Wreck and in the ruins.
He's eager to take a break from the crypt, after making little headway over the course of several days, to investigate and loot the Nautiloid Wreck. When the player arrives, he is discussing this with a member of his crew, Taman, who is against the idea.
Involvement
Act One
Gimblebock can be found at the Chapel Entrance with Quelenna, Taman, and Warryn. When the party approach, he automaticallys engage them in conversation and asks them to leave.
The party can use one of several Ability Checks including Persuasion, Deception, Intimidation as well as class-specific options for monks, warlocks, paladins, barbarians, and fighters to cause Gimblebock and the others to leave peacefully. Alternatively, the party can attack them.
If the player character meets Gimblebock after exiting the crypt while using
, they learn that he is wondering what happened to his crew inside the crypt - though he is more worried about whether the player character has the upper hand than him regarding his allies' lives.Resolving the situation peacefully rewards 50 XP and Cheese Your Way Through for those with the charlatan background, including Astarion. Fighting the bandits will grant 70 XP and the opportunity to take all their gear. Triggering the encounter from the balcony with Warryn does not lead to any approval increase no matter which option is chosen. It is necessary to start the encounter from the lower area near Gimblebock and Taman. It is possible to defeat the bandits after convincing them to leave, granting a total of 120 XP.

Idle banter
Gimblebock and Taman can be overheard arguing whether to loot the Nautiloid Wreck.
Gimblebock: There could be all sorts of loot in that thing - don't you want to be rich?
- Taman: Of course I want to be rich - but not if it'll get me killed.
- Gimblebock: You'll die a bloody pauper unless you take a few risks.
- Taman: Why don't we just wait a while? Make sure it's safe.
- Gimblebock: Either we act now, or someone else will pick that wreck clean and leave us nothing.
- Taman: Haven't seen anyone but us. It's just wilderness out here.
- Gimblebock: Hells. Pity you aren't as good at graverobbing as you are at excuses.
- Taman: Just being careful. Like my mum always said, fools rush in.
- Gimblebock: Hells. Pity you aren't as good at graverobbing as you are at excuses.
- Taman: Haven't seen anyone but us. It's just wilderness out here.
- Gimblebock: Either we act now, or someone else will pick that wreck clean and leave us nothing.
- Taman: Why don't we just wait a while? Make sure it's safe.
- Gimblebock: You'll die a bloody pauper unless you take a few risks.
Speak with Dead
Gimblebock can be spoken to with
.Party member: Who are you?
- Gimblebock: Gimblebock...
Party member: What is your profession?
- Gimblebock: Thieving. Looting. Cutting throats... wherever there's gold...
Party member: Do you have any valables?
- Gimblebock: Looking for valuables... chapel...
Party member: What were you doing here?
- Gimblebock: Looting... chapel ruins...
- Party member: Did you find valuables in the ruins?
- Gimblebock: Some... but lower crypt locked...
- Party member: How do I get into the crypt?
- Gimblebock: Door sealed... can't break it... can't pick it... must be something.
- Party member: How do I get into the crypt?
- Gimblebock: Some... but lower crypt locked...
- Party member: Did you find valuables in the ruins?
Party member: What's inside this place?
- Gimblebock: The others, searching... chapel ruins. Can't get into lower crypt...
Party member: Do you have many people inside?
- Gimblebock: Handful... Andorn guarding the door. The rest searching...
If the party successfully identify the statue in the Dank Crypt:
Party member: Did you know you were breaking into a chapel dedicated to Jergal?
- Gimblebock: No. Doesn't matter... if his loot's good...

Notes
- As of Patch 1, Gimblebock's race is simply "Gnome", without having a subrace specified (unlike his fellow bandit Warryn who is listed as a Rock Gnome). This may be a bug.
- Gimblebock chose an unfortunate place to stand and talk. If the party get close enough without being seen, they could snap the coiled rope holding the foundation block above him.
