The celebration is in full swing.
You fought well. And so did these creatures, thanks to our leadership. When you tire of their company, come to me. Tonight, you are mine.
Minthara, not mincing her words

Overview[edit section | visual editor]

The goblin celebration is a special camp event which occurs after completing Raid the Emerald GroveRaid the Emerald Grove, while siding with the goblins. Talking to MintharaMinthara after defeating the druids in the grove initiates the feast.

The event is mutually exclusive with the Tiefling Refugee Celebration event, which happens if the party side with the tiefling side during Raid the Emerald GroveRaid the Emerald Grove.

The goblins appear at camp and throw a raucus party. This event also allows the player character to initiate romantic encounters with their companions at a much lover approval level compared to otherwise. This event is also the only time a sexual encounter with Minthara can be triggered. It also grants the Slaughter's PrizeSlaughter's Prize to party members with the CriminalCriminal background.

Both KarlachKarlach and WyllWyll can show up when starting the celebration,[1] briefly stating they do not want to be part of this and permanently leave the party.

During the festivities several characters can be interacted with, among them the regular camp followers.

Companions[edit section | visual editor]

Every recruited companion can be spoken with during the celebration. For Lae'zelLae'zel, MintharaMinthara and AstarionAstarion there is a higher chance of romance. Typically a romance option is open if the player character has 20 or more approval and has either not started any romance or is involved in no more than one other active romance. Companions will sometimes comment on who the player character is interested in or commits to during the party, influencing their dialogue afterward.

During conversation a potential romance scene can be unlocked, but it is only upon going to sleep that the player character gets to decide which of the potential romances is finally chosen.

All companions also have dialogue in case they are already being romanced by the player, if a romance has been ended, or if their approval is not high enough yet.

The companions can be found at their regular camp spot, except ShadowheartShadowheart moves to the campfire.

Astarion[edit section | visual editor]

During the romance cutscene Astarion's back scars can be seen.

If this is the first time the player character engages in close relations with AstarionAstarion, he asks which kind of drink the player would like upon being spoken to. During the conversation - with sufficient approval - the player can start a romance with Astarion. If he is chosen, an option becomes available upon resting to begin a cutscene as described on his romance page.

If the player character slept with Astarion before the celebration, Astarion tries to entice the player character into another sexual encounter, paying compliments and finally even confessing his love (though admitting quickly and readily it is an obvious lie). Choosing "I think it's better if we leave last time as a once-off" ends the relationship with Astarion. If the player character agrees to spend the night, there is no additional romantic scene; it is simply implied.

Gale[edit section | visual editor]

Deeply regretting his contribution in the slaughtering of the grove, GaleGale blames the player character as the reason for what he has done. Indifferent of the dialogue options picked, Gale announces that he is leaving. The player character has several options to respond with:

  • Then leave.
  • [INSIGHT] Stay. We make each other stronger. We make each other survive. (DC 15)
  • [DECEPTION] You don't stand a chance alone. You're free to go. I dare you. (DC 15)

If the first option is selected, or the ability roll from the other two options fails, Gale says his 'farewell' and leaves the party permanently. If he is convinced to stay, Gale grudgingly agrees to stay. If he has not previously clarified his condition he mentions that the player might understand him better if he did. When pressed to elaborate, Gale promises to explain it another night and not while among this vile revelry.

If Gale's doubts are neglected for too long,[2] he leaves the party without much fanfare, leaving only a small note behind.[3]

Lae'zel[edit section | visual editor]

Lae'zel stands at the altar room threshold, inviting the player character to night of pleasure without commitment.

The goblin celebration night offers another opportunity to romance Lae'zelLae'zel. If the player character agrees to her offer and picks her as option when going to sleep, her cutscene plays as described on her romance page.

If a tryst with Lae'zel already occured, an exclamation point may appear above [!] her head. If then spoken with, Lae'zel observes she has, on several occasions since their first night together, caught the player character looking at her "with lidded eyes" and perhaps, as she sees it, wants to sleep with her again. If the player character agrees with her assessment, she reminds them she never promised to be with them more than once. If they agree but promise to stop, she deflects, answering, "I did not say it was unwelcome." With either choice, she playfully challenges the longing player character with an offer:"Tempt me." Any response except declining results in approval. After this, when going to sleep an option think about Lae'zel can then be chosen.

Minthara[edit section | visual editor]

When the celebration begins, MintharaMinthara demands the player character come over, and proclaims that for this night, they are hers. Upon speaking with Minthara at the celebration the only options are to accept or decline her demand. Should the player character accept and select Minthara as option when they go to bed, the two meet later that night at the campsite altar.

After the sex cutscene, the player character wakes up with Minthara in their arms. They can choose to focus on her desire, or do a DC 15 Wisdom Check DC 15 Wisdom Check to push deeper into her fears. Minthara admits she did not feel the presence of the Absolute and confesses she felt strangely comfortable in her moments free from it.

The The Dark UrgeThe Dark Urge can choose to give in to The Urge and kill her - granting the player character her Mind Flayer tadpole.

Murder attempt[edit section | visual editor]

Minthara ready to strike the moment the player wakes up.

Later that night, after the player character has gone to bed, regardless of whether or not they pursued her, Minthara stands above them with a knife in her hand. She confesses she has been ordered by the Absolute to kill the player character, who can then attempt to dissuade Minthara from this.

If the player character does not have a tryst with Minthara, an initial check must be passed to prevent her and the goblins turning hostile:[4]

  • [PERSUASION] Don't make this personal. I am a servant of the Absolute, same as you. (DC 12)
  • [INTIMIDATION] You wouldn't dare kill me - I'm a True Soul, same as you. (DC 15)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] You'd try kill me? I AM THE ABSOLUTE'S FIST! (DC 15)
  • I'm not afraid of you.
  • You're a coward.

If the player character accepted Minthara's offer for a sensual night, she instead claims she harbored doubts that they are a True Soul, but upon attempting to murder them, a voice came to her telling her to stop. Here the paths can parallel with a possible romance route, where one of the following dialogue checks must be passed to prevent hostilities from starting:

  • [DECEPTION] I only wish to please the Absolute - send me to Her. (DC 2)
  • [PERSUASION] We're both worthy. Let's go to the Absolute together. (DC 2)
  • I prefer to decide my own fate.
  • If I go to the seat of Her power, it will be to destroy Her.

If successful, Minthara recommends they not go to the Goblin Camp again due to them having the same orders to kill the party. She tells the player character they must go to Moonrise Towers to find their place in the Absolute's Grand Design. She provides a Spider's Lyre and explains that a servant of hers can lead the party through the Shadow-Cursed Lands where Moonrise Towers is located. She then leaves, stating that she is gathering the troops to meet the party at Moonrise Towers. This starts Travel to Moonrise TowersTravel to Moonrise Towers.

This concludes all events before an actual Long Rest and the party then start the new day at a 'normal' camp site. The Gift from the Absolute as given as a reward for the quest Raid the Emerald GroveRaid the Emerald Grove.

Shadowheart[edit section | visual editor]

Shadowheart having one too many.

In the middle of the campsite, close to the fire ShadowheartShadowheart indulges in plenty of wine and has a hard time coming to terms with the raid on the grove. She is rather cynical and sarcastic about the current situation, and hopes the wine will pickle the worm inside her head.

It is possible to do an Illithid DC 2 Wisdom Check DC 2 Wisdom Check to push into her thoughts. Doimg so reveals her mind is drenched in drink and confusion, and that even though she has killed before, this time she cannot shake the twisting feeling that lingers in her gut.

Shadowheart can be persuaded to sit by the fire, granting approval Shadowheart approves +1. After sitting down and staring to the fire for a bit, she slowly collapses to the ground.

Other camp followers[edit section | visual editor]

Despite the celebration, WithersWithers stands at his usual spot, having dialogue options no different than normal. A goblin tracker chases ScratchScratch. If he is spoken to he calls goblins loud and ugly, and hopes these are not the player character's friends.

Other interactions[edit section | visual editor]

Altar[edit section | visual editor]

Goblins praying to an altar of the Absolute.

A goblin booyaghbooyagh, warlockwarlock and brawlerbrawler are praying at an altar dedicated to the Absolute. The warlock and brawler have only short remarks, but the booyahg, whom is leading the prayer, can be conversed with. She will ask the player to "Let the blood flow", as a response the player character can decide to either shed their own blood, decline, or with an Illithid DC 2 Wisdom Check DC 2 Wisdom Check force the Booyahg to spill her own blood.

Caged again[edit section | visual editor]

If VoloVolo is part of the camp followers he is once again be found in a cage, similar to his predicament at the Shattered Sanctum. His cage stands near Shadowheart's tent and when speaking to Volo he mentions he is perfectly content with being forgotten in a cage. He is busy writing an account of the battle, and asks for specificity on what the player character has done. They can ask for his notes, which he initially declines to share, but after threatening him, Volo shares On Goblins: My Life Among the Conquering Host, which in turn grants the inspiration Secrets of the High ChieftainSecrets of the High Chieftain to party members with the SageSage background when read.

Ripper[edit section | visual editor]

Ripper sits on a log at the camp festivities along with other goblins who are celebrating and drinking. If approached, he immediately offers the party a "gift from the battlefield". If the party met AlfiraAlfira before, the talking party member realizes that the gift is the lute belonging to Alfira, and can either tell him to keep it or accept the gift. If the gift is accepted, Ripper hands over Alfira's Lute.

The party member can optionally use their tadpole to command Ripper to hand over the lute and anything else he is holding (Illithid DC 2 Wisdom Check DC 2 Wisdom Check). Succeeding the roll grants the lute and an extra Longsword, whereas failing the roll grants the lute and a Heart.

Korrilla[edit section | visual editor]

Regardless of potential interactions with Korrilla before, she can briefly be found at the campsite. Shortly after the celebration starts, Korrilla teleports to the shoreline of the camp, to a spot near where hirelings are lounging during the party. If the player character stands too close to her teleport location, she immediately disappears and sneaks towards the spot where GaleGale is camped; the player character can briefly interact with her before she disappears again.

Barcus[edit section | visual editor]

It is possible to have BarcusBarcus join the celebration at the campsite if he was rescued from both the windmill at the Blighted Village and the dig at Grymforge. He must be asked to join the camp at Grymforge, after which he becomes a camp follower.

During the celebration Barcus is cautiously assembling explosive arrows. If spoken to he chastises the player character[5] and says he thought they were a good person. If he is asked to join the festivities, he states its your victory, not his, and he still worries about his friend WulbrenWulbren. Unlike the Tiefling Refugee Celebration, Barcus cannot be persuaded to set off any fireworks.
