Tiefling Refugee Celebration

Overview[edit section | visual editor]
The tiefling refugree celebration is a special camp event which occurs after completing either Defeat the Goblins or Raid the Emerald Grove, while siding with the tieflings. The tiefling refugees are packing their belonging at the Emerald Grove after these quests and talking to Zevlor[1] initiates the feast when starting the next Long Rest.
The event is mutual exclusive with the Goblin celebration event, which happens if siding with the opposing side during Raid the Emerald Grove.
Zevlor and the tiefling refugees appear at camp and start a celebration before leaving for Baldur's Gate. The choices prior to this event determine who appears during the feast. This event allows the player character to possibly initiate romantic encounters with more than one companion, and at much lower approval rates than otherwise required; it also grants the Guardian of the Forgotten to party members with the Folk Hero background.
During the festivities numerous characters can be interacted with, among them the regular camp followers.
Companions[edit section | visual editor]
Every recruited companion can be spoken too during the celebration, with a higher chance of romance. Typically a romance option is open if the player character has 20 or more approval and has either not started any romance or is involved in no more than one other active romance. Companions will sometimes comment on who you’re interested in or "commit to" during the party, influencing their dialogue afterward. During conversation a potential romance scene can be unlocked, but its only upon going to sleep that the player character gets to choose which of the potential romances is picked.
All companions have dialogue as well in case they're already being romanced by the player, if a romance has been ended or if their approval is not high enough yet.
The companions can be found at their regular camp spot, except Wyll who has moved closer to the water side.
Astarion[edit section | visual editor]
If this is the first time the player character engages in close relations with Astarion, it first triggers a dialogue with him stating the party was insufficiently rewarded for their heroics (and explaining what he would like to receive instead). If agreeing, Astarion becomes a romance option when going to sleep. If picked a cutscene triggers as described on his romance page.
If the player character slept with Astarion before the celebration, Astarion tries to entice the player character into another sexual encounter, paying compliments and finally even confessing his love (though admitting quickly and readily it is an obvious lie). Choosing "I think it's better if we leave last time as a once-off" ends the relationship with Astarion. If the player character agrees to spend the night, there is no additional romantic scene; it is simply implied.
Gale[edit section | visual editor]

If the player has not yet triggered a romance scene with Gale, he will thanks the player upon initiating conversion for seeking him out. When going to sleep the player character can seek out Gale and his Mystra cutscene will play, as described on his romance page.
If the player is already romancing Gale, or has ended their romance, he will instead talk about his companion Tara and their history together.
Lae'zel[edit section | visual editor]
The tiefling celebration night offers another opportunity to romance Lae'zel. If the player character agrees to her offer, and picks her as option when going to sleep, her cutscene will play as described on her romance page.
If scene already happened, an exclamation point may appear above [!] her head. If spoken with, Lae'zel observes she has, on several occasions since their first night together, caught the player character looking at her "with lidded eyes" and perhaps, as she sees it, wants to sleep with her again. If agreeing with her assessment, she reminds them she never promised to be with them more than once. If agreeing but promising to stop, she deflects, answering, "I did not say it was unwelcome." With either choice, she playfully challenges the longing player character with an offer: "Tempt me." Any response except declining results in approval. When going to sleep an option think about Lae'zel can then be picked.
Karlach[edit section | visual editor]
The camp celebration is a key moment in Karlach's romance story. Regardless of approval, the player character can inform Karlach how much they like her and Karlach excitedly agrees to visit the player character after everybody else goes to sleep that night.
If there is an already-planned romance scene (having talked to another companion) Karlach comments on it. However, she still awkwardly asks if the player character wants to spend time with her later instead.
When going to sleep and picking Karlach, she visits the player and lies next to them. The player's character is not able to touch Karlach during since it is not possible to progress The Hellion's Heart past the first step in Act One. However, she can be convinced to try a brief kiss – which the player character can either end quickly or embrace the moment. Both options result in burnt lips, but with different dialogue.
Shadowheart[edit section | visual editor]

At the celebration Shadowheart can be approached in conversation, during which she admits that she has begun to care about the refugees and is confused by these unexpected emotions. She also confesses that she feels guilty toward her mistress, Lady Shar.
If the player character is eligible for romance with Shadowheart she invites them to "share a bottle" with her. Picking her as option while going to sleep will play her waterfall cutscene as described on her romance page.
The next day, the player character can speak with Shadowheart about the previous night. Her response varies depending on her approval level and on what did or did not occur during the encounter.
Wyll[edit section | visual editor]

The player character can find Wyll by the water during the celebration, secluded from the festivities and in a state of melancholy. They can talk to him and attempt to cheer him up through various dialogues. The player character has multiple options to flirt with Wyll, including playing a guessing game with Wyll, asking for a dance or asking for a kiss instead. The kiss requires a DC 15 Charisma or Persuasion Check, but failing does not lock the player character out of his romance.
If the player character successfully flirts with Wyll, he responds with a promise: "There will be another time for us." This confirms they are now dating. Afterwards, the player character can select "hoping to dream of Wyll" when going to rest.
Wyll rejects the player character during this conversation if they already agreed to spend the night with another companion, are double-dating or have less than 10 Approval with him.
After the celebration, the player character can talk about their romantic moment regardless of the kiss or not; either way, Wyll claims that he has planned something for them.
Other interactions[edit section | visual editor]
The way forward[edit section | visual editor]
Near the trunk serving as bridge across the water, Zevlor and Halsin are standing together. When spoken to, Zevlor expresses his delight that his people are saved and happy. He thanks the player for helping. In case Zevlor has died Cerys takes his place. Instead of simply enjoying the night, she is listing herbs for a hangover cure and plans to go out on a foraging.
Halsin urges the player to enjoy the evening instead of worrying for tomorrow. He can be flirted with but his romance scenes are not available yet at this point.
The morning following the tiefling's celebration, Halsin tells the party about the two leads he has on how to reach the Shadow-Cursed Lands: travelling through the Mountain Pass, which would be less dangerous at first but would mean a longer journey through the shadow curse, or exploring the Underdark in search of an alternative route, which would bypass some of the shadow curse but comes with all the dangers inherent there. Both routes are part of the overarching quest Travel to Moonrise Towers which starts from this point onward.
Singing[edit section | visual editor]
In the middle of the campsite Alfira is busy writing a new song. Her friend Lakrissa occasionally drops by and gives her some suggestions. When spoken to she says she is feeling inspired and wants to compose a new song about the player's character. She asks for input on what the sound should be about.
- Not really. I'm not much of a bard.
- How about courage? Classic song material.
- Have you seen this body? It would be a crime not to sing about it.
- Honestly? I'd rather you didn't.
- If I hear my name in a song, your life is forfeit.
- If I want a song about me, I'll write it myself.
- How about the goblin spines I'd ripped out with my bare hands?
- I don't deserve such praise. I serve a higher power.
- Sing about my prowess in battle.
- Maybe a song about my mixed heritage? It's a point of pride for me.
- Sing about surface elves - and how filthy and pathetic they are.
- Sing about our people. We deserve it.
- There's just so much. Let's start with my physical beauty and go from there.
- I'd rather hear a song about Mystra.
- Make it a song for everyone who fought. Couldn't have done it alone.
- Just mention the legend that is the Blade of Frontiers, the hardiest hero to ever travel the Sword Coast.
Afterwards, Alfira mentions that things began spinning due to her wine intake and she'll return to creating the song next morning.
If Alfira has not survived until the camp celebration, Chell will show up instead. She does not provide similar songwriting questions.
Dancing[edit section | visual editor]

In case Lakrissa has not survived until the celebration, Zae will replace her. She is slightly intoxicated and asks the player's character for a dance. Bards have a specific line to excitedly accept while Githyanki can decline saying I only dance the dance of death - in battle..
If accepting to dance, the following options can be selected.
- Sway your arms and hips.
- Spin in a circle - hands drifting through the air. (DC 10)
- Kick out a jaunty two-step. (DC 10)
- Perform an ancient waltz of victory. (DC 10)
- Stamp the ground and ROAR. (DC 10)
- Begin a classical Baldurian courtier's dance. (DC 10)
- Improvise a unique dance. (DC 10)
The first option is deemed too boring by Zae, selecting any other option and dancing successfully grants the Celebrant inspiration to characters with the Entertainer background. It also grants approval to some companions. +1 +5 +1
Fireworks[edit section | visual editor]

It is possible to have Barcus join the celebration at the campsite if he has been rescued from both the windmill at the Blighted Village and the dig at Grymforge. He needs to be asked to join the camp at Grymforge after which he becomes a camp follower.
During the celebration Barcus can be asked to join the festivities, but he states its your victory, not his. He is still worried about his friend Wulbren. Despite his reluctance, he can still be persuaded to set off fireworks for the celebration.
A new name[edit section | visual editor]
Asking the player's character to settle down with him, Volo wants to do a naming for the player's character, a so called nom de guerre. The player can make a suggestion, like Grovekeeper or Goblinsbane, but Volo wants something grander, more dramatic and will excuse himself to deliberate.
A potential murder[edit section | visual editor]
During the quest Save Arabella the acting archdruid Kagha can let her snake kill the tiefling child Arabella. In this case she is present at the celebration, but so are Arabella's parents Komira and Locke. Whether or not she feels guilty depends on how the quest Investigate Kagha is resolved and if she repented. Arabella's parents will poison Kagha and Komira will try to assault her with a knife. A conversation option is available to the player to convince her to stop her attack ( DC 15 Persuasion Check). The poison can be cured after afterwards with for instance Lesser Restoration. Kagha thanks the party profusely and vows to improve herself.
Korrilla[edit section | visual editor]
Regardless of potential interactions with Korrilla before, she can briefly be found at the campsite. Shortly after the celebration starts, Korrilla teleports to the shoreline of the camp, to a spot between where Wyll and any hirelings are hanging out during the party. If the player character stands too close to her teleport location, she immediately disappears and sneaks towards the spot where Gale is camped; the party may briefly interact with her, before she disappears again.
The tieflings[edit section | visual editor]
Groups of tieflings are spread throughout the camp, and you can speak with them. The couple Bex and Danis are near a trunk which serves as bench. Bex attempts to dance but realises she has had several drinks too many. Githyanki characters get a unique "humorous" dialogue option, asking about cats.
The siblings Cal, Lia and Rolan are nearby. Rolan performs a magic show for his brother and sister, and the player can applaud his performance, his siblings will mock him though.
The tieflings Ikaron and Guex occasionally banter together. Ikaron is rather unhappy about the festivities, thinking that the fallen tieflings should be commemorated. He can be persuaded to join the others with a DC 5 Charisma Check. Upon success he will admit that drinking will make the situation more tolerable. Guex is excited for their destination Baldur's Gate, finally saying goodbye to caves, tents and running away, instead settling down in homes.
Across the bridge next to Halsin and Zevlor on the waterside stands Mol. She has found a reclusive spot after having stolen some wine. Mol reveals that she is planning on selling it for an expensive price once the attendees run out of drinks. If she was given the idol during the quest Steal the Sacred Idol, but then the idol is pickpocketed or bought from her before the celebration, she instead comments that someone managed to steal the idol and she would like to them recruit if she finds out who it was.
Other camp followers[edit section | visual editor]
Despite the celebration, Withers stands at his usual spot, having no different dialogue options than normal. The potential pets Owlbear Cub and Scratch are also present, and excited about the many celebrating people around them.

Characters[edit section | visual editor]
Since the celebration happens at the campsite, all companions and camp followers can appear if conditions are met, e.g. a companion is recruited.
