| “ | An illithid oubliette. Right beneath the Towers. A colony must be close. That must be where the tadpoles are coming from. |

Overview[edit section | visual editor]
The Oubliette is a hidden underground dungeon beneath Moonrise Towers. It is a fleshy, biological refuse where experiments from the Cult of the Absolute are dumped.
Although the Oubliette appears at the southwest of the map of the Mind Flayer Colony, it only teases at it as they are distinct and separate areas.[1] The party can only reach The Mind Flayer Colony from the Moonrise Towers Rooftop, after defeating Ketheric Thorm, and the Oubliette cannot be reached from the Mind Flayer Colony.
Access[edit section | visual editor]
The Oubliette can be reached in several ways, on some occasions it is used as a trap for the party.
- From Moonrise Towers Prison, it can be reached by jumping into the pit at X: 580 Y: -690 (entering only), or by jumping into the hole in Cell Three at X: 579 Y: -616 (entering only), or by descending the Cragged Rock at X: 503 Y: -617.
- From Moonrise Towers, it can be reached if a party member submits to or fails the checks to escape the Cracked Wall at X: -126 Y: -177. This results in Dislocated Shoulder being inflicted on them.
- If the party progress through Reithwin Town at X: -290 Y: -14 on the road to Baldur's Gate before Ketheric Thorm is defeated, they can chose to continue ahead or turn back; if the party continue, they are immediately transported to the Oubliette.
The following inspirations can be gained:
- Delving into the Deep ( Outlander background) - for entering the Oubliette, through any method
- Will Not Be Forgotten ( Urchin background) - for leaving the Oubliette
Main chamber[edit section | visual editor]
Most of the ways to enter the oubliette let the party land in the main chamber. It is an area filled with viscera and blood. On the northern side of the chamber is a hidden area, closed off by destructible membranes. Within lies a dead Goblin named Vermit (around X: 639 Y: -79). The party can commune with him using Speak with Dead, revealing him as a former True Soul. He sheds light on the true fate that befalls believers of the Absolute who 'ascend'.
Just west of the hidden area lies the body of Zealot Krizt at X: 625 Y: -89, it contains a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen and some armor. Nearby is more viscera at X: 621 Y: -98, containing gold, a Harp-Shaped Pin and alchemical ingredients.
Prisoners kept in the Moonrise Towers Prison can be found dead in the main chamber if they are not freed from before dealing with the Nightsong.
The tunnels[edit section | visual editor]

A series of cliffs south of the chamber serve as an exit. They leads to an area where a pair of Hook Horrors stand between the party the Cragged Rock leading out.
At the start of the tunnels around X: 664 Y: -116 a Dirt Mound can be spotted with a hidden chest containing gold and alchemical ingredients. Near the southern wall lies the corpse of a dead Deep Gnome civilian containing gold, arrows and some minor loot.
