Lia is a tiefling in Act One, who can be encountered in the Emerald Grove arguing with her siblings Cal Cal and Rolan Rolan.
What's the point in blades and spells if we don't bloody use them? We should stay.
Lia arguing with Rolan

Background[edit | edit source]

Lia, Cal, and Rolan grew up together. While Lia and Cal are biological siblings, all three of them maintain a sibling relationship with each other. Out of the trio, Lia's views on honor and duty differ sharply from those of Rolan, often leading to forceful disagreements with him.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Lia can be found in the The Hollow of the Emerald Grove, arguing with with Cal Cal and Rolan Rolan on whether they should remain in the Grove to help the tiefling refugees or leave. While Cal attempts to mediate, Lia empathizes with her kin, and attempts to convince her brother Rolan to stay and help the tiefling refugees, but he thinks they should leave. The party can convince them to leave or stay.[1]

Convince to stay[edit | edit source]

The following options convince the trio to stay:

  • [PERSUASION] You should all stay. A single blade could make a difference. (DC 10)
  • [DRAGONBORN] Clan is everything. You don't abandon those you swore to protect.
  • [TIEFLING] Have you forgotten Elturel? We should stand by our people - no one else will.
  • [BARBARIAN] Only cowards run from a fight.
  • [RANGER] I'd choose the wilderness over the dangers of a city any day. Stay.
  • [MONK] To leave is a heavy choice - it will weigh on whatever path you walk next.
  • [PALADIN] 'Where the weak have need, the strong have a duty'. Stay.

Convince to leave[edit | edit source]

The following options convince the trio to leave.

  • Get out while you can - the goblins will be back.
  • [GITHYANKI] If they cannot fight, they will die. That is as it should be.
  • [EVIL CLERIC] Why die for those who can't defend themselves?

All other options, or deciding not to interact with them causes them to leave on their own as well.

If the goblin leaders are killed, Lia takes part in the festivities at the party's Camp alongside Cal and Rolan.

Act Two[edit | edit source]

If the trio remain in the Grove and survive through Act One, they are inevitably separated in Act Two. When the tiefling refugees are ambushed, Lia and Cal are captured by cultists and held captive in Moonrise Towers Prison. The remaining tieflings at the Last Light Inn will ask the party to Rescue the TieflingsRescue the Tieflings.

If Lia is not freed from Moonrise Towers before the party deals with the Nightsong Nightsong, Lia's corpse can be found in the Oubliette alongside the other prisoners.

If the trio decide to leave the Grove in Act One, Lia does not appear in Act Two.

Act Three[edit | edit source]

If Lia survives Act Two and Rolan sides with the party against Lorroakan Lorroakan, she appears later in Sorcerous Sundries with Cal after Lorroakan's death.

Idle banter[edit | edit source]

Lia, Cal, and Rolan argue about whether to stay in the Grove during Act One:

  • Rolan
We don't even know these people!
    • Lia
      That doesn't matter.
      • Rolan
Of course it does. You would choose strangers over us!
        • Lia
          That's not what I said.
          • Cal
            Can we stop shouting? No?
  • Cal
    Calm down! Please.
    • Lia
      I won't leave them behind!
      • Rolan
You're going to get us killed!

If Cal, Lia, and Rolan stay in the Grove:

  • Cal
Don't be grumpy, Rolan. We'll get to the city soon.
    • Rolan
      I am not grumpy.
      • Cal
The scowl on your face would frighten a troll.
        • Rolan
          Heh. You're an idiot.
  • Cal
How long until Rolan shows off his Thunderwave?
    • Lia
Depends. How many people are dumb enough to ask?
      • Cal
        Hah! True.

If Cal, Lia, and Rolan do not stay in the Grove:

  • Cal
How long will it take to get to Baldur's Gate?
    • Rolan
Depends. How often are you going to ask that?
      • Cal
Hey, sis. How long will it take to get to Baldur's Gate?
        • Lia
          *Sigh.*
  • Rolan
We should add the Elfsong Tavern to the list.
    • Lia
      So long as you're paying.
      • Cal
Drinks on Rolan? Count me in.
        • Rolan
I swear, I've never met such a pair of cheapskates.
