Tags

Tags in Baldur's Gate 3 are identifiers attached to characters. They typically allow for additional dialogue options. There are many different tags throughout the game. Some are defined by a character's background and inherent traits, while others are obtained by performing certain actions throughout the game.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Tags are attached to characters and serve a few different purposes. Most tags are used for dialogue options; for example, monk-specific dialogue options are enabled via the Monk tag. Tags like Branded are required to use certain features of items. Which tags apply to a character can be found at the bottom of the 'Detailed View' in the character panel. Note that not all tags that appear next to dialogue options are necessarily linked to a character tag; for instance, the Illithid option shows up in conversations but is not a tag in the character panel.
Below follows a list of all possible tags in the game:
Race[edit | edit source]
Subraces[edit | edit source]
Noticeably, Dragonborn subraces do not have any tags.
Class[edit | edit source]
Paladins do not have a class tag, only a tag for their chosen subclass. Clerics also lack a class tag, only having a special tag based on their chosen deity. Picking another class via multiclassing also grants that class's tag.
Subclass[edit | edit source]
Only paladins and warlocks have tags for each of their subclasses. For barbarians, only the Berserker subclass has a tag.
Cleric deity[edit | edit source]
Clerics get their class tag named after their chosen deity. The Cleric of Shar is a special tag exclusive to Shadowheart for as long as she stays loyal to Shar during the game. After a specific moment in Act Two, she can switch her tag to Cleric of Selûne.
- Cleric of Bahamut
- Cleric of Corellon Larethian
- Cleric of Eilistraee

- Cleric of Talos
- Cleric of Tempus
- Cleric of Tiamat
- Cleric of Tymora

Additionally, characters multiclassed into both cleric and paladin receive another tag corresponding to their deity. The ability for paladins to choose a deity was removed after Early Access, but paladins with cleric levels may still receive these tags.

Origin characters[edit | edit source]
All origin characters and companions have a tag specific to them.
Special tags[edit | edit source]
- Baldurian – granted if a character's race is not from the Underdark ( Drow, Drow Half-Elf, Deep Gnome, Duergar) or Astral Plane ( Githyanki)
- Branded – getting branded by Gut or Greez in the Shattered Sanctum
- Dark Justiciar – exclusive to Shadowheart upon staying loyal to Shar and killing the Nightsong
- Detect Thoughts – while under the effects of the spell or having the means to cast it
- Faithwarden – completing Investigate Kagha as a druid, if Kagha survives
- Forbidden Knowledge – upon partially deciphering the Necromancy of Thay
- Hag-Eyed – accepting Auntie Ethel's deal in Act One
- Humanoid – always granted, but can be (temporarily) removed, see shapeshifting
- One-Eyed – granted if:
- Character is Wyll (he has one stone eye made out of Bloodstone[verify])
- Character has Volo's Eye after agreeing to Volo's surgery during Act One or Act Two

Special interactions[edit | edit source]
Disguise self[edit | edit source]
While using Disguise Self or similar effects, tags granted by race and subrace will be removed and replaced by the race of the chosen disguise. The subrace of the disguise is predetermined and cannot be changed. For instance, Disguise Self: Masc Dwarf turns the player into a Gold Dwarf, granting both the Dwarf and Gold Dwarf tags.
Similarly, disguise effects temporarily remove the Branded tag, causing effects which require the Brand of the Absolute to no longer work, such as the Gloves of Power.
Shapeshifting[edit | edit source]
Using either Wild Shape or Displacer Beast Shape temporarily removes the Humanoid tag until returning to humanoid form.
Becoming Full-illithid permanently removes the Humanoid tag.
